New project, 1969 stepside

I just bought a 1969 chevy stepside, and i had a few questions. To start with, when the truck was new, it was ordered by the air force, and due to this, the sheet in the glove box is confusing. The thing that has me most confused is the option stating it has a heavy duty clutch. The truck has a turbo 400 in it now, and was never a manual. Would the 400 be original, or would it have hade a turbo 350. thanks

Re: New project, 1969 stepside

If you look at the transmission on the passengers side there should be an identification plate with the code numbers stamped in it which would give the year and application of the tranny. If you post the code, I can look it up for you if you don't have a source.

Re: New project, 1969 stepside

Well, saying the glovebox sheet's vin number matches the title vin, I would say the truck originall had a 4-speed, which has a high hump. It's not all that difficult to just change trannys, and the appopriate items that go along with it, to a Turbo 400. It only could have been a TH400 if it was a big block, a 67-8 3 speed automatic, or ordered with the big tranny. Hope this helps

Re: New project, 1969 stepside

Site Vendor WES has a 67 or 68 panel that was military when new. He showed me the glove box lid and it had at least 3 listed options about DATA plates.

Anyone who has been around a military truck knows what those are... the little info stickers or sometimes they are tin plates that say things like:
DO NOT START With out first pushing the clutch in.
SEATBELTS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES.
TURN OFF HEADLIGHTS (you dummy!)

If you option sheet has DATA plates listed as options then likey it's the original thing. Any chance of posting a pic?
