What do you do to secure your classic? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Have searched the board for past threads on this without much luck. While both of my trucks are locked in my garage at home, when I am out with them, I do worry sometimes about theft (these old trucks were easy to steal, no?).

Looking for different security devices such as:
1) Full blown security system
2) Battery disconnect system
3) Steering wheel/brake lock
I'm sure there are many others but want to know what the board members do to secure their truck.

I don't lock my '67 unless we are going to be gone for a week or two and I leave the key in it most of the time. The key hasn't been out of my '94 Chevy pickup ignition since I bought it 5 years ago. I do lock the doors on it if we are going to be gone for more than a week or we go to the city. One of the advantages of living in central Iowa.....

Lock I'm in the same situation you are. Probably more people here though. In the middle of Oklahoma. 5 miles out of any town. We leave the keys in every vehicle we own... every single hour of the day. We take them out when we leave for a vacation, which isn't very ofter because of all the horses and cows needing to be looked after.

How crappy would it be to have all this stolen?

My theory is if they want it they will get it anyway. My god, they steal new Caddy Escalades at the malls and look at all the crap they have on them for theft deterrent....

Smith and Wesson makes the best locks. They come in differant sizes and caliber.

A kill switch works good and is cheap. Just tap into the ignition circuit (power to coil). I think alarms just get ignored now days. Some thiefs just tow the vehicle away and break into it later though. Backing in when you park somewhere helps too.

key type battery disconnect, maxi fuse in painless wiring harness kills power to fuse box, kill switchs on ignition and fuel pump, removable jumper wire on neutral safety switch are some of the things i like.

i dont think antitheft stuff really help nowadays all u really need is a flatbed hauler and a fake towing business on the side of it and ur set to steal stuff all day.

Agree with everyone, if they want it they'll get it. All i can do now is remove bat and block her in.

Ill never shoot someone for jackin either of my trucks...but be damn sure if im there it'd get fun. Talk about a stress reliever....takin out some punk does wonders.

I think I could make an honest guy out of him..

I will install a paging alarm. The air bag controls I have will dump when the alarm is triggered, it also has a key lock on the side.

Nothing special, because I used to drive a tow truck and I know how easy it can be regardless of what you have installed.

around here we leave the keys in them, if you go to town and look in the cars you will see the keys in the ignition of 90% of all vehicles. if some one wants to take it they will why make them break somthing to do it

Here is a trick from a buddy that worked in aviation. He installed on of those high power aviation circuit breakers in his truck. It looks someting like a very small toggle switch, but unless you know what it looks like, it looks just like a screw cover. He had wired it into the power wire for his msd box, should work on other ignitions. It worked real well. So you may want to check on one.

Theft deterent? Mine is painted half black and half primer. I guarantee this will prevent theft, or a date with the fairer sex.
