The Ultimate GMC Dually

I am presently modifying a 86 GMC 3500 4x4 dually from a 350 gas carborated 4 speed standard to a 5.9 Cummins Diesel/ turbo 400 3 speed.
The donor engine came from a 92 stub-nosed school bus.
After much trial and error, I succeeded. I created one of three different adaptor plates to make the hook up. i was told it couldn't be done. The non-beleivers got to see it running like a dream. I should have taken bets. I'd have made a killing.
My second project is a 96 GMC 4x2 dually which had 6.2L Diesel 4 speed standard. I'm installing a DT 360 International 6 cylinder diesel/turbo 400. Engine and transmission are mated together now, and ready to lay in the frame. I'll keep you posted.
I'm curious whether anyone else has managed to figure this out.
Please let me know.

Re: The Ultimate GMC Dually

The B series cummins came in MANY bread vans as a 3.9L 4 cyl mated to a turbo 400 & the SM465 both with the GM belhousing pattern. All you need is the correct bellhousing adapter from the 4cyl with the GM pattern trans. Its fits on the B series 5.9L 6 cyl. What did you do?

Re: The Ultimate GMC Dually

Thanks for your reply. I am aware of the Grummin Van idea, however, there wasn't one to be found anywhere. After months of searching and advertising, I had no choice but fabricate my own set of adaptors. I haven't found anyone else who has tried this and been successful. If you know of anyone with a grummin van for sale, please let me know. It would save me a lot of time and money the next time.
Thanks
Paul

Re: The Ultimate GMC Dually

Yeah, I didn't see your location till after I posted. Seeing as what you went through to get it done I'd say it was no small feat. Congratulations! There was a little P30 chassis school bus for sale up the road at a local school. I saw one of the mechanics but he said it had been sitting for a couple months, (longer than he had worked there) He didn't know if it was a 6.2 or a 4 cyl cummins. I need to go see what it is before the bids close!
Welcome aboard!
