K5 Body Mounts
Anybody know of a good source for a urethane body mount kit. Stock height, no lift. Can a truck kit be used on a Blazer? Also, is there any reason to go with a factory style rubber kit instead of the urethane?

OE Rubber mounts are better IMO the poly ones don't flex enough and I have seen them bend the body mounts because they are so stiff. The poly ones are nice becasue they last forever and everyone makes them I got mine from Manes Truck Parts.

I checked out lmc for body mounts for my blazer for the 2wd swap, they list for a c 5 blazer is this how I need to ask for parts when refering to this blazer cause after reading some of this forum I thought all 69-72 blazers where k5. also I contacted energy suspension and prothane and they either don' make body mounts for 2wd k 5's or the reps that I spoke to doesn't know what there talking about. Please inlighten me.

I still haven't purchased a mount kit. I am kinda second-guessing myself on getting the polyurethane parts. Would I be better off going with OE rubber? I am interested in highway comfort and some offroading as well, but I doubt I will ever be extremely rough on the truck.

I did the poly swap YEARS ago and they are still working great. I think the poly will outlast rubber by a long shot. The key to installing poly mounts is NOT to overtighten the bolt. If you squeese poly it won't felx. I used nylon locking nuts to prevent the semi-snug bolts from comming loose.
I remember when I first swapped in the poly mounts my rig was WAY WAY smoother down the road and off roading too..ALOT less flex noise and road noise.... This was one of the very first mods i did cuz come to find out after I bought my rig only 5 out of the 12 mounts were actually connected to the frame

I used a 4wd poly mount kit on my 2wd. I dont really know what the difference would be. seemed to fit perfectly everywhere.
I got mine from Kenny's truck parts in Tulsa. the brand was Prothane and it was considerably cheaper than the Energy Suspension kit. |

You won't find grade 8 carrage bolts...welll I guess I should say I could not find grade 8 carrage bolts. Ya know the bolts with a flat head..anyway I remember I had to make a couple of trips to get all the correct bolts and one of my bolt holes didnot hold the carrage bolt anylonger as it was wollowed out so I used a grade 8 bolt with larger washer to keep it from pulling thru the floor.
REMEBER don't over tighten the nuts to the point it squeeses the poly, poly won't flex if too tight. I remember getting all the mounts loose and then used a small bottle jack at each mount location to slightly lift the body so I could slide in the new hardware.. to this day all is still inplace and have had zero issues with them. Wish I could help, Critter, I am using the LMC rubber set and I compared a couple of the bolts and they seem the same. Havent opened all yet as each position is individually packaged. The foot area bolts in mine look like grade 5(3 lines on the head) so I wonder if your stuff was changed before and welded back in like factory. That's 1/2" bolts so grade 5 should sure be enuff, especially when you consider that they get torqued 40-55# according to the assembly manual.

Sorry I never got you the bolt info! I ended up ordering mine from LMC it cost me about $40.00,the floor board bolts that were in mine were to big for my washers that came with the kit. the local Ace Harware store had some fender washers that worked just fine.If you still need the info I will try to find the piece of paper at work with the dimensions. My local bolt supplier could only sell them to me 25 at a time! |

The bolts I had to replace were as follows
3/8 by 4 1/2 inch two of them 3/8 by 10 inch two of them 3/8 by 5 1/2 inch four of them the other bolts I was able to salvage but the floor pan bolts were to big for the washers in the kit so I was able to get a fender washer from the hardware stor and it worked ok. |

By my count, I remember 12:
Under radiator support x 2 (7/16 I think) Main cab support in floor pan x 2 (slightly larger than 1/2" maybe 9/16ths?) "Bed area" x 8 (see 1972Banana's list above) Sorry for not remembering the lengths. I had to make a couple of trips to the hardware store to get things right. Obviously, too short is a problem, but you can easily go too long as there are often brackets and things directly below the mount areas. I suggest pulling one out from each side and taking them to be matched up. Also, I called Summit and asked about the bolts, they confirmed with Energy Suspension that ALL of the bolts are specialty bolts and no hardware store will have exact matches for them. In my opinion, try to reuse the large bolt in the floor pan area, it seams the have very odd dimensions and tapers. Otherwise, the rest of them cross over with regular hardware just fine. Hope this helps.
