Ok. I've got an interesting one. One of my trucks is an old `68 Chevy. I've run across a guy that is looking for a truck to rent. He wants to park it in his store and create a display around it for 30-45 days.

So, anyone have any idea what a going rate would be for something like this? I really like the idea of the truck making money for me. Basically, I'm thinking I'd like to do this once in a while and take anything I make off it and put it back into the truck for restoration activities. Thoughts?

the local burgerville down the street used to do that all the time, the'd have beautiful restored Hot Rods, Vet's Trucks ect. right in the middle of the store with a velvet rope around it to keep people from it, but I seen many kids reaching over the ropes & grabing & pulling & touching these gorgeous hot rods, it scared the crap out of me, are they liable for any unforseen damage?

This was the response I received when I replied that I might be interested...

Basically, the idea is to park a truck in the middle of the Produce department at Whole Foods Market in Plano at Preston and Park. They are going to recieve a special crop of apples and they want to set the scene as though a farmer just drove his truck into the store to drop off his fresh apples, directly from the farm. The hope is that the truck would not be a refurbished show truck. So, boxes of apples could be filled in the back of the bed and spilled down into boxes, for the customer to shop from. Essentially it will all be set up and the truck wouldn't move for 30-45 days. We hoped that it just might be a beater truck that someone didn't use on a daily basis. Of course if there was any damage to the truck we would own the responsibility. This idea came about as a way to avoid having to purchase a truck.

Two of the four managers at that location live in Frisco, and several others managers in the metro live in Frisco. This is completely unchartered territory for us, so everything is up for discussion. We would love to give someone a really nice giftcard for the rental, but we could also have a check cut from our corporate office. We would love to build this display early next week. Let me know if this would interest you or if you have any other questions. I greatly apprecaite you even taking the time to consider this!

Note, my truck is not restored yet. Not even close.

Heck, I'd do it if I had a farm truck looking truck, just expect kids to be climbing into the cab all the time unless they will lock the cab up. Not sure what to charge, it sounds like a cool idea.

That will be almost as bad as the old"I used to have a truck like that only it was a fuchia Ford with an11 cyl engine and 2 1/2 speed auto with a clutch.I sure had some good times in that truck."

Im scared to death to park my truck within 18 spots of the grocery store entrance or buggy racks for fear of cart dings...I cant even imagine how I would get any sleep if it was parked IN the grocery store!

I say go for it. If they dont like your cash price maybe you could make a deal for part cash and part grocery store credit. You gotta eat!

After the display was done, I'd have them remove the display and take a count of all the apples left over. Each apple left over equals 1 Shiner Bock for them to put back in the bed!!!

I say do it, it would be safer in the store then in the parking lot. Think of it as climate controled storage that you get paid for.

If you do it, make sure they do something to prevent it being hit by shopping carts.

I say do it...for the $$$ or Grocery Credit. Maybe ask them to put up a small Straw/Hay Bail border around the truck (that way it would fit with their Farm Fresh/Country Fruits theme in a way) to help safe gaurd the truck from Cart dings which is about the worst thing I could see happening in the store.

Well, looks like it's working out. I dropped it off at Whole Foods Market tonight. It'll be inside toward the front of the store. Merchandise around it to protect a bit and cab remains locked. The deal ended up being for $500. I wrote up a legal agreement about what could and could not be done and had it signed with witness signatures and all. So, good stuff. I'll take the money and put it toward one of the many things it needs.

My brothers tattoo shop in Santa Cruz used to host bikes from Santa Cruz Harley-Aprilia. His shop was on the main drag and got lots of lookers. They gave him parts at cost (he builds custom choppers for fun), it was a sweet deal for both of them.

It ended up outside. They couldn't figure out how to get it into the store without some serious rearranging. Oh well. It sits outside in my driveway anyway. And the have off duty Plano PD for security. I also had them sign documentation stating my terms of their financial responsibility. Also license plates and battery are removed.

They stuck the Texas flag in the window. Kind of cool.
