fiberglass toolbox doors
i talked to a gentleman today that does custom fiberglass work and we were looking at the rusty toolbox door on my old 72 super. i showed him my NOS door and he mentioned using it to duplicate out of fiberglass. he said if there was enough interest in a glass version, he'd attempt to make a few of them. he estimated a cost of $200.oo each if he could get 5 or more people to commit to the project. please give me your input and post here if you would be interested in one of the finished doors.

Re: fiberglass toolbox doors
The way they rust out, there should be a lot of interest.

Re: fiberglass toolbox doors
i spoke to one of the guys at brothers about this, and the problem is, it is a low enough production number of an option, that it wouldn't sell very good. Yes, those who need one, will give there left lug nuts for them, but they simply won't move enough to be cost effective.

Re: fiberglass toolbox doors
Brothers was the wrong place to talk to. So numbers weren't big enough for their scale of operation. Fiberglass costs pennies to set-up compared to steel. Virtually every owner out there will buy one if someone made these. And someone did makes these, but it was too early I guess. I had one made by Dennis's Pickup Parts that I bought just because. Now if more thought that way... no problem on selling enough. I ended up selling it to MT Dave for his Longhorn, I guess shortly after this thread was posted. I was expecting him to come on and say he bought one. It was '07 when I sold it to him.

Re: fiberglass toolbox doors
My door is not bad on mine, but the body just below the door is rusted out. Any suggestions, no one seems to make a patch panel for this area.

Re: fiberglass toolbox doors
That's exactly how mine is and I plan to modify a rocker panel patch it.

Re: fiberglass toolbox doors
That's a thought, using a rocker panel patch. Now that I think about it, that would probably work fairly well. When I get to it, I'll take pictures and post my results as long as no one makes fun of my welds

Re: fiberglass toolbox doors
That was my thought, after comparing the lines they look the same to me. No one will laugh at your welds. This place isn't like that at all.

Re: fiberglass toolbox doors
A rocker panel works great, I used one on my bed. Trevor
