Gas hole filler patch - hard or easy? prebuilt insert on Ebay....
I am moving my gas tank to the rear. Is this patch a time saver for $15? I don't have much experience with bodywork but want to do it myself. Might be a little easier if I start with this item. Thanks..

i hate bodywork and did it myself. worked out great. i made cardboard templates of the other side and just took my time till i had it matching the cardboard template. i had to modify mine a little bit since my hole for my gas cap was jacked up anyways.

I made my own. you can see a little from my website on what I did. The hardest thing is getting the contour correct or close to correct. I bent mine somewhat to shape by hand, then smoothed it out with filler. I still have to tweak it a bit before I go to final paint. You can tell a little that it is not an exact, but unless your looking you might miss it.
Here is link to the my web page where the patch work starts. http://myweb.cableone.net/wpalfrey/Body/body_02.htm BTW, you'll will probably have to do the same tweaking even with the bought patch. Yo

if my hole hadnt been messed up it would have taken very little tweaking for it to lay perfect for welding.

msgross, if you can give me a few days I have a long patch panel cut from an old door with the correct contour that I was going to use specifically for this purpose and I could cut a piece off for you if you're interested.

I just used a crappy old piece I cut out of my fender. It came out pretty good, so that patch should work great. This was only my second attempt at welding.
