relocating gas tank to rear
I am in the process of rebuilding a 67 longbox and I want to get rid of the gas tank that is currently in the cab. I want to put a tank under the bed and was wondering if someone could tell me what I should be looking for at the wreckers. What model truck and year would be the easiest to transplant the gas tank into my truck?
Thanks Terry |

Re: relocating gas tank to rear
Most wreckers won't sell a used gas tank around here.

it's really not woth the time to get a used tank. you would be surprised how cheap new tanks can be but the problem is finding one that fits. most likely you will end up with a custom made tank if you want it to fit properly.

Re: relocating gas tank to rear
i used a 40 gal sububern tank in my short 4x4but doubt if one would fit with coil springs. many use early blazer tanks, they may be to tall if truck will be lowered.i would take some mesurements, bring a tape mesure and check some vansor older cars with filler behind plate.check to make sure they weren't punctured to drain at wreckers before trying to remove

Re: relocating gas tank to rear
Here's what I did. That way the tank is brand new not all full of rust & crap and I think I got a flyer in the mail that said they are having 10% off everything in thr store Nov.24th - 25th? Just my 2 cents.

Re: relocating gas tank to rear
hey check out the older blazer tanks you need to modify the filler neck location and they fit in the back under the bed if you don't intend to slam your ride to the ground they fit right between the two rear xmembers if you remove the smaller thrid cross piece the bolt hole are already there good luck

Re: relocating gas tank to rear
I used a gas tank from a 64 suburban, it is a direct bolt in.
Look for 60-72 surburbans, 60-70 panels, or 69-72 blazer, those are all the direct bolt-ons, other then that, tanks from other vehicles will need mods, unless you buy a new tank from one of the venders... |
