Things that make you go @#$!
Like your transfer case (NP-208) getting stuck in 4wd twice 2 weeks!!!! The first time I didn't get home in time when the chain snapped and took out part of the case with it. Fortunately, the breakage happened right in front of my house so I didn't have far to drive. Now it has happened again and I'm not sure why. As far as I know there isn't any serious damage, but I haven't pulled apart the case yet. I'm hoping nothing broke, but I'm very confused about the whole situation. I adjusted the linkage according to the Haynes manual. The one drivability issue with my Burb was the tires were a little out of balance which was really noticeable around 65-70 mph. Could that be the main cause or is it just another case of bad luck? I'm seriously considering converting over to the Rockwell transfer case I have sitting in my shop or maybe try and find an NP-205. Guess I'll have to park the Burb for a little while longer. Thanks....had to vent.

Switch to a NP205...Definetly won't snap a chain that way!

I've seriously thought about that, but right now I just don't have the time or $$$ to do the swap. I really want to get the Burb going again quickly so I will pull the transfer case, take it apart and see what's wrong. It's depressing because I just installed that transfer case a week ago....oh well I'll get it figured out.
On a more positive note. I was talking with my Boss and he is looking to get rid of his 1970 Chevy 4x4. Nothing is set in stone yet, but it looks like we might be working something out for it.

Does it jump into 4x4 by its self? There is a spring loaded plunger that works on the shift rail to prevent that like an auto trans...

The shift linkage didn't move. Both times I had it in 2wd hi. I pulled apart the original t-case and a gear had a few teeth missing and I figured the pieces jammed it in 4wd. I'm not sure what happened with this case, but I think it is something similar. I'll know more Friday when I take it all apart again...will try to post some pics of the carnage too.

Did some workin' on the t-case and it looks to me like the internals are ok. I found a diagram and the pieces that I thought were broken are not. I had to really look at the diagram, and it looks like those pieces/parts help with the shifting.
I'm guessing my old out of balance tires are the cause...somehow. I bought the current wheel & tires mostly for the wheels, but the tires had some life left so I figured I would drive on them for a while. So I will have my newer set of 33's put on and get the transfer case together and back in the vehicle. I've also ordered a set of Warn Premium hubs....waiting for those to arrive. Thanks!

...how about a Rockwell? Aren't they gear driven? I have a T-221 but don't plan on REALLY wheeling my ride. Just a stocker.

Because the T221 is gear driven, I've thought a long time about using the Rockwell set up I have in my shop. The only thing stopping me is the downtime and $$$. I would have to have my driveshafts modified and I can't really afford that now, and I need to work on onther projects.
I got my Burb back on the road. I got the back tires replaced and the manual hubs installed Thursday night. When I had the hubs out I noticed the axle nuts on both sides were extremely loose and had a fun time trying to get them torqued down. I'm wondering if the loose nuts may have been part of my problems. I still feel some vibrations, but I haven't replaced the front tires yet. I will have that done Monday. Thanks!
