What to do?
I picked up two Jerry can style gas tanks from the swap mart yesterday for $5.00. They're 1951 stamped post war military issue that are pretty solid. I intend to get them setup as spares for camping with my 72 Blazer. Problem is that they are full of surface rust and have reminants of diesel fuel in them. Any suggestions on a safe/legal way to clean them out? Thanks in advance.

POR-15 makes a gas tank re-seal kit. Goggle it!

Take them to the same place you would get a regular gas tank redone. Around here radiator shops will do it.

Mister, that's funny, thanks for the info guys. I just don't want to spend more on cleaning them than buying new ones. Thanks keep 'em coming.

Useta clean motorcycle gas tanks with a large pack of B-B's and some thin oil. Put B-B's in tank, add oil, and shake. Do as often as neccessary to clean tank. My $.02 .
