Suspension Kit Advice
I am ready to buy a suspension kit for the 68 short frame, 1/2 ton 2wd, I am trying to build. I have have recently sandblasted and painted all my frame and suspension stuff and am ready for assembly. I've been looking for a complete kit and have seen them in LMC, Classic Parts(Chevy Duty) and others. The deal from LMC appears to be the best , price wise anyway. I would appreciate any feedback from both sidea of the fence. Good? or Bad? This is a pretty large investment and want to do it right. Also, noticed that LMC is the only company that mentions that GM is now using a larger 9/16 u-bolt for the lower control arms. Noticed the Classic parts bolts look thinner? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Re: Suspension Kit Advice
I'm fairly new at this forum thing but, I checked out a site I saw advertised on this forum called performanceonline.com and was really impressed with their parts and prices. Everyone has their own opinion but I will be purchasing most of my chassis related parts from them, especially the motor mount and tranny crossmember they have.

Re: Suspension Kit Advice
way back when i first got my 71 i purchased that kit from lmc. honeslty it's a nice kit even though the tierods and ball joints are made in asia. i actuly just installed the ball joints and tie rod ends on my 69 "converted to disc." and there not bad quality wise. only time will tell how they hold up though.

Re: Suspension Kit Advice
Much of the parts are similar from many of the vendors. Price-wise The Car and Truck Shop seems to be the best. I've had nothing but good luck with them.
http://www.truckandcarshop.com/ For "hardcore parts" Early Classic is the best IMHO. Very knowledgeable. http://www.earlyclassic.com/home.aspx Check them out.

Re: Suspension Kit Advice
Ok, here is what I bought:
2 Moog K6147 control arm kit $111.98 2 Moog K6117T balljoint $53.98 2 Moog ES2004S adj sleeve $21.98 1 Moog K6131 pitman arm $68.99 2 ADC K6124 ball joint $63.98 2 Moog ES415RL tie rod end $47.98 2 Moog K6098 control arm kit $83.98 2 Moog ES403L tie rod end $41.98 Total with tax $524.55 These parts were purchased at O'Reilly's in '05. You may find a cheaper kit, however these are all Moog components available locally - no shipping charges. These parts are heavy. PS - Autozone has some cheaper parts I believe they that some of the stuff was TRW. I bought my drop spindles from GMC PAULS good vendor. |
