Not about a fuel cell.....
How big are the incab gas tanks for these trucks?
Im filling my truck up every 3-4 days. I never let it get lower then 1/4 tank. It usually holds 10-11 gallons when I do. If Im doing the math correctly I get about 6-7 MPG. I work 15 miles from home, so 30 miles round trip....and I rarely drive around other then that. That sucks.... |

Re: Not about a fuel cell.....
I put just shy of 22 gallons in mine once.
Some of the trucks...seems to be more on the 67 and 68, but some of them are more like 16 - 17 gallons. |

Re: Not about a fuel cell.....
Both my '71's are labeled 16 but if you force it you can get 17 in it. On my '68, I have not payed attention to it when I feel it up because I just assumed it was the same as the others. Yes, I know to assume is to make an "ass u me".

Re: Not about a fuel cell.....
Sounds like you have the typical old truck gas gauge, way off. Most of the trucks I have seen the tank is 20 gal. Short trips and depending on your gearing, 7 Mpg might be accurate. But your gauge is probably off and you have a lot more fuel left in the tank than what you think.

Re: Not about a fuel cell.....
^^^I agree. I have the same problem in my truck. I can fill the tank up in my truck and the first 3/4 of a tank goes extremely fast, but I can drive on the last 1/4 of a tank for a really long time.

Re: Not about a fuel cell.....
I had the same issues, till I replaced my cluster with a Covens Insert wtih
Autometer Ultralite gages and realized that the factory gage was not fuctioning correctly. The new gage cluster works MUCH better and is way more accurate. |

Re: Not about a fuel cell.....
figure your MPG by miles driven and gallons used.... you don't even need a fuel guage to figure out the MPG.
