My '51 Project
Hi,
I'm new here to Post but have been reading a lot! Great info! Quality work! Tons of ideas! So I decided to start my work up. Here's what I have to start with. And a pic of my last project that I abandoned in favor of the truck

Good solid truck to start with. What are some of your plans? Any modifications coming? Welcome to the board and keep us posted!

Re: My '51 Project
Sold the 29 model A for what I paid for the truck!
My plans are Must II IFS , 350, 700R, Triangulated 4 bar rear, all bagged. I want the truck to sit on the floorboards with the air out. Tell me how? C notch the rear? 2 in dropped spindles ? I need to know! Here are some pics that did not fit the first time.

Re: My '51 Project
I like the plate an vintage frame! Are you going to "rat rod" it or go for the finished look? Sounds like between the suspension and frame work you have a good size budget! It all adss up quick. I'm up to $25k without paint, interior or sound!

Daniel - that makes me not feel so crazy about asking $39K for mine. People don't realize how much you can tie up any these things. Even at that price, I'm probably only making about a nickel an hour for my labor! SteveHSD, do you have any picture of the front end set up on your old project? A friend of mine is building a chassis from scratch similar to that and any pics we be a big help. Thanks, Rob

Re: My '51 Project
Looks like a solid start! I think you will need more than a C-notch to lay frame.
May need to Z it in the rear to get it that far down. Welcome aboard!!

Re: My '51 Project
Thanks
I plan to leave it alone paint wise It's all the same color so I'm fine with it. I like the look of the rat rods I may paint an old shop logo on the door if I can make it look old How many inches do I need to Z the frame to get it that low?

Re: My '51 Project
please man instead of going to hack the frame up make a new one and keep the original in storage for another resto job , it will probably too weak for the job anyway

Re: My '51 Project
Took off the bed today.
PO had welded the fender to the running board on the right side Had to grind that off. All bolts rusted, broke em all Plan on removing all of the old suspension and rear end What's that bar behind the crossmember? Have a Camero 10 bolt rear end I'm planning to use lots of grinding to do Hack it up? too weak? you think so? These frames are being given away on the HAMB I may bolt on a front end have to see how low the rear will be before I z it If I take the cab off I may go with another frame know of one with must II welded in already for 100 I am learning as I go I just feel like I'm tearing it apart but that has to happen to improve the stance. Thanks for your input! |

Re: My '51 Project
Steve, Are you talking about the solid metal bar with a hump in it? If so that is your emergency brake. I pulled out the one in my dads truck because we went with a different rear end and it uses cable type e-brakes. If that is not what you are talking about then post a picture and I will see if I can help you out.

Re: My '51 Project
PGF no not the brake one, there's one behind the rear cross member.
Bolted on. Also the rear cross member , tire hanger, is bolted at the top with what looks like adjustable slots? I'll try to post pics. |

Re: My '51 Project
Got the rear springs off last weekend to see what it looks like.
About 4" off the ground front and rear, looks cool. Researching Mustang II and Triangulated 4 link Zigs has a special for $3000 front and rear with bags plus brake booster Suisidedoors.com has some good stuff too
