Metal bed floor....

I know they're out there....Ive seen them, I just cant find them.

My truck is also my daily, and I use it like a truck. Problem being that my factory wooden bed is rotted out so bad I cant put anything in it. And since my dad wont move his 56 (Gasp!) Ford out of the garage....my truck sits out by the curb in the elements.

So is there any one that makes a metal bed floor or know if any of the newer bed floors will fit?

Its a 70 SWB.

Thanks,
Mitch

Re: Metal bed floor....

They arent made new yet. Your best bet is to find a good used bed and swap yours out or find one with a good floor but wasted sides or find someone who is removing a steel floor for a wood floor. Finding a swb steel floor is pretty hard and when you do they go for alot of $$$$. You could shorten a long bed floor but is not recomended. So really your best and most cost effective one is to replace the wood floor with a new wood floor. Just seal the wood with epoxy and you should be fine. That is what I would do.

Re: Metal bed floor....

You'll have to swap your front bed panel for it to be "right" too.

You can also just put a sheet of plywood down for now. That's what my stepside had in it when I bought it

Re: Metal bed floor....

You can buy the 2 halves for 73-87 --- I might try that route if you can fabricate a little.

Arrow Re: Metal bed floor....

I have a very good metal 67 short wheelbase floor I am gonna get rid of I am going with the wood because of the look , I will not be hauling much more than my vintage coca cola cooler so the wood will work for me , my metal floor is the best one I have ever seen in my life with only very very minor rust in just a couple spot's , all the cross sill's are super clean it looks nice and clean underneath as well , I would gladly trade it to a member here for some wood floor parts such as a good rear crosmember and all the sill's in super clean shape for a wood floor and ???
anyone that see's this before they delete it feel free to PM me ,

Re: Metal bed floor....

I would go with Hart_Rod suggestion. Find a late model, cut the floor to fit, then bolt/weld it in. However, as was mentioned, to do it right you'll need a new front panel (or modify the old one). Also, to keep body lines correct you'll need different (or modified) cross braces to make up the bed thickness differences.

Re: Metal bed floor....

www.tabcobodyparts.com list left and right bed floor panels for 67-72 PU. $91 each side. This is the only place Ive found that list metal bed floors for our trucks.
