Blue Dots?

Anyone running them?
Are they legal?
Is one brand better than the next?
Thanks,
B-dub

Re: Blue Dots?

I run them in my '68 4x4. Got them when I went to Spring Carlislie quite a few years ago. In Virginia, you can run them but when inspection time rolls around (yearly) you need to put the stock ones back in. I have never been stopped for using them. In my opinion i see no differance between the glass and plastic one's. I think it is better to buy them already installed in the lense as I cracked both lenses on my '58 before I bought the installed set.

Re: Blue Dots?

Where can you buy the lense with the blue dot pre-installed(round style) for the step side?

Re: Blue Dots?

I can't remember because it's been so long. Try LMC or Brothers.

Re: Blue Dots?

the cheap plastic ones suck, plus the bezel will rust... The good glass ones come with a stainless bezel and let the light shine through better

I like the dots, I have them on my truck, but I would rather have the glass ones, I think they would show up better, when you find them, would you let me know?

Re: Blue Dots?

blue ones hardly alter the light, which in many states, they are illegal anyways, but the glass ones will chainge the color of the turn signals and brake light to purple-ish.
Her ein Ohio, they are only legal on motorcycles. I discovered this wan a motorcycle cop was giving me a fix it ticket, and I asked him WTF about your tail lights there buddy.
Bad idea.
If you have to swap them for your inspection... then they are illegal, period. Just most cops just don't care. That's why those clear ones..and the clear ones with red reflectors... both which are illegal per federal law... are all over the place... no one cares.

If you go this route... keep a second pair handy. I normally palyed dumb and was OK.
If you have LED lamps in back, the blue dots will do absolutly nothing.
If you install them on your lens, you want to place them directly over the bulb for max effect.

Re: Blue Dots?

Hmm......
I do like the way they look but I really don't want to attract more BAD attention from the law.

You're right though longhornman, ricers and even some american cars/trucks sport those clear lenses and they don't seem to get pulled over.

Re: Blue Dots?

i dont understand the paranoia of the law, I drive my truck everyday to and from work and I have antique plates @ $13 /24 months which re-strict me to drive only to and from car shows or repair, well ... i repair my truck at my shop and its an on going occurance. I've never been hassled about any thing on my truck, just my need to floor it from light to light.

Some of the county cops around here are jacka$$es and will pull you over for your tires not having enough tread.

I too have the need to floor it from light to light!!

Re: Blue Dots?

The concern on the law really depends on who you are, and where you are, and how bad you tick off the man.
Here in the greater columbus area, I am OK as long as I stay out of the north end. If I hang out up there and behave like I do here on the west side, I WILL get pulled over for one thing or another. Some things I am willing to risk... loud pipes for example. However, personally, i don't need other things, like blue dots, to give the cops up there a reason to bust my balls.
Side note, last time I got pulled over for loud pipes, I commented on how the vehicle noise emissions act wasn't passed untill 72, and that as long as I have noise emissions products on my vehicle in full oeration that I am well within the limits of the law. Little did he know the vehicle noise emissions act of 72 was written for heavy trucks... not light duty.

Re: Blue Dots?

Yup, I have been stopped several times in WA for blue dots in my blue blazer. I used to carry a stock set in the back and I would tell the cops my kids put them on at the "car show" and forgot to switch them back...boy are those kids going to catch it! No I never really let my kids borrow my blazer-LOL

Now I run nothing but LED TLs and never have a problem. Red works much better than blue/purple.

That's interesting. I have a friend who is an ex po-po. He has blue dots on his 60's jeep and told me they were fine as long as the vehicle is a "classic".

Re: Blue Dots?

I got these red dot/bowtie combos, glass and stainless, from Danchuck. They have them in red, blue, amber, and clear, but they ain't cheap unfortunately. I like them though, they are just a subtle touch, and real Chevy guys notice them, as opposed to the goobers that don't know the difference, LOL!
