409biscayne - 72 Cheyenne Super Build
I've waited two years to get started on this project , so here goes :
1972 C10 Cheyenne Super SWB 402BB T400 is the plan , nothing too radical . I bought this truck here in Spokane mainly to part out , i had it parked for six months before i really even looked at it , it had the original paperwork including Protecto-plate and build sheet with it , it was a customer order truck sold originally thru Hall Chevrolet , Prosser , Wa . It has a pretty good list of options including a/c , tilt , tach , 3.73 posi , med. blue / white . It's quite rust free , except rockers and cab corners . Plans are to shorten the frame from lwb and i've already bought a short fleet box ( tks Frank ), and most of the parts to lower 3 / 5 inch , i've got a killer t400 w/3000 stall trans brake , manual valve body to go with either a 402 or possibly a 454 , i have both i just don't know which i'll use , yet . Here's a couple of pix , i don't have any with the fenders and box . More to follow ........................................ 409

Hey, I saw this truck on that same exact trailer today. I wish I would have known it was yours before I borrowed some parts off of it.

That is a great start to what will be a very nice truck! BTW, I am from Prosser, and am well acquainted with Hall Chevrolet! Ken Lewis |

Re: 409biscayne - 72 Cheyenne Super Build
Ken
Is Hall Chevrolet still going ? In Prosser ? According to the Protecto-plate the truck was sold originally to Benton City Mint Farms , Inc. I wonder if there still around ? Nothing quite like restoring someone's old worn out farm truck , lol . Are we crazy or what ? Tks .................................... Doug.

Re: 409biscayne - 72 Cheyenne Super Build
Doug:
Hall Chevrolet is pretty much an institution in the area (Prosser, Benton City, Tri-Cities, etc. At one time, the agency even won "dealer of the year" and, I think, was noted in Time Magazine. My parents and I have bought numerous vehicles from them over the years for our family and farm. Your truck was probably originally sold by one of the two Hall brothers who owned the dealership at the time -- Wally or Bob. They (particularly Wally) basically watched me grow up checking out the new cars and trucks every year, and collecting brochures. Wally still spends some time in the dealership, although his son, Jeff, essentially runs the place now. They are good people! Some of the salesmen and service personnel have been there a long time! I wouldn't be a bit surprised if someone at Hall's remembers your truck! Wally's younger brother Bob eventually went on to own a large auto mall in Yakima (one hour northwest of Prosser) and is a prominent figure in that city. His dealership started out as a Chevrolet agency (Bob Hall's Sunfair Chevrolet) and then he eventually bought out the neighboring GMC and Honda dealership (now the whole complex is known as the "Greenway Auto Plaza"). I am not sure if Benton City Mint Farms, is still around. The mint industry was big in this area in the seventies, making many farmers rich, but eventually mint largely disappeared from the scene. I don't know if the Shaw family, who owned Benton City Mint Farms, is still in the area. Most likely, their land is either being used to grow apples, grapes, or is now full of housing. As far as restoring old farm trucks, I am with you! I am preparing to restore the 1975 K20 my dad bought new from Hall's in August of '74. Ken Lewis |
