Removing driver side fender - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

How do you remove the driver side fender? I am going to install my new door hinges tonight.

here yah go.

1. remove wiper arms
2. remove cowl panel, 4 bolts and like 8 screws
3. support driver side of hood while open and mark hinge postion on driver side and remove the 3 bolts that hold to fender.
4. remove inner fender, you will need to remove the inner fender brace , the 1" x18" plate next to the sttering shaft. then unbolt and remove inner fender, rest of bolts are accessable underneath truck.
5. You may or may not have to remove front bumper, I would.
6. Unbolt the grille from the fender, if it is a 67-68chevy grill can stay on truck. there is 4 bolts holding it to the fender.
7.unbolt the fender from the core support, accesed from inside engine room, 2 under triangle corner brace and 3 along the edge of the core support where it attaches to fender.
8. remove bolt from under fender where lower fender ataches to cab.
9. then remove the last 2 bolts that attach fender to cab, the bolts that were located under the cowl.
10 remove fender.

I may be wrong but I remember being able to put on the hinges with fenders on.I will go with what Aaron says but you dont have to remove the inner fender which is a P.I.T.A. if the fenders has been on there since new.I wouldnt remove the whole front end because IMO its a waste of time and takes too long to remove everything.You only need to remove the outer fender which is held on by several bolts connecting the inner and outer fenders together,the bolts holding cowl,and fender to cab,the bolts holding the fender to the grill,and several more bolts I am forgetting(been to long)You will need to remove the hood to.

Dustin, I just take a long 2x4 place it on the cowl and run it up to the core support. I then set the back edge of the hood on the 2x4 after removing the hinge bolts. I have done a couple of fenders that way. Yes you could leave the inner fender in, but I always find it easier to remove it while doing something like that.

so you are telling me you don't have to drill out all the little spot welds to get the fender off
