whats a 327/SM420 sell for?

Found me a rot box shortbed '67 with a 327/SM420. The truck is pretty clean looking until you start really looking at it. The bed has long since been liberated from the truck. The guy said I could have the truck minus the engine and trans for $350, and also stated that the engine and trans were very valuable. I've been around for a day or two, and think otherwise, but what is it worth? Figure the condition to be around 100K or so, and in decent shape.

If the motor runs no smoke, knocks, major leaks etc figure 250 - 400 the tranny is a pc you really need a person looking for one otherwise it is not worth much (read boat anchor) have seen them around this area (Ohio) for 25-50 bucks leaning heavily towards 25 just my opinion anyone can dispute this cya Mike

Sell the SM 420 on Pirate4x4, Jeep guys love them for the 7.02-to-1 1st gear ratio and the are short (little over 12in long) and they don't break very easy. With a high hump floor you can install a TH400 in the truck with ease.

The guy who owns the truck think its worth some money, I don't. I know the jeep crowd likes these transmissions for that reason, but the PBB folk dont want to give more than $200 IF THAT for this trans.

200 bones sounds better than 25, what was his price with motor & trans?

I just picked up the same truck about 3 weeks ago. A 67 Short-Step, was a V-8 4 spd, coil rear, bed rotted away and the cab needs a floor. It came with the bell, tranny and some driveline. He threw in a good set of 72 doors to sweetend the deal. It's a some-day project

SM 420s are attractive to the 4x4 crowd but are readily available in junk yards since GM put them in trucks for like 20 years or more and Uncle Sam used em also. I would think without knowing condition 75.00 to 100.00 tops on the tranny.

The guy didn't give me a price with engine and trans. If he did, I would venture a guess he would have wanted alot more than I wanted to pay for that ol truck without the bed, and a rotted floor. I can't make money if the cab is rusted out and i have to pay for a drivetrain, AND buy a bed.
