Barrett - Jackson Auction
If any of you folks are looking for a nice 71 short box Chevy there is one going through the Barrett- Jackson January "Big Buck Auction" in Scottsdale, Arizona. Its posted on their webpage and its number 16.1.. There isnt a whole lot of info on it but it does say its an original with a repaint. Although their auction stuff brings outrageous prices especially with their 8% buyers fee the quality is always there..

Re: Barrett - Jackson Auction
just an opinion here, but they are bastardizing the hobby. The public sees the stupid money the old stuff goes for, and they think there junk is worth more now.
I saw a very clean 73 Comet (Maveric) go for over 10 grand... an inline 6, automatic, power nothing... but good shape car. That's just stupid. |

Re: Barrett - Jackson Auction
I love to watch it.....but theres a downside to watching the BIg auctions....everyone who has a '70 chevelle with a 350 and rust all over the floor thinks they have a 30k+ car......bologna! my 2 cents.
HUGE PIC... _EDIT!!!_ No direct link to barret-jackson.com

just an opinion here, but they are bastardizing the hobby. (Quote) I agree, now every one with a pre 72 car/truck thinks that they are sitting on a gold mine. I still love to watch it.

I couldn't have put it better...."bastardizing the hobby" is the best way to put it.

Re: Barrett - Jackson Auction
Ummmmm, what does bastardizing mean???
Just kidding....being silly. Not saying I would've used those words, but I agree with the conviction. J

Re: Barrett - Jackson Auction
Mine has grease pencil markings on the firewall. Model number and production markings from the assembly line.
I bet that green truck has some, too.

Re: Barrett - Jackson Auction
4 years ago my buddy bought a 71 SWB identical to that one. Same color and options,2nd owner, garage kept owned 15 yrs. He gave 10,500 and worth every penny. Shame it burned when his house burned. Appraised at 16,500 and insurance paid that.

Re: Barrett - Jackson Auction
$174,000.00 for a Hemi 'Cuda clone with a greasy 318.After I saw Don Johnson sell the one he drove in Nash Bridges I pretty much quit watching. The people buying most of those cars are not auto enthusiasts. They have figured out that there isn't a capital gains tax on collector cars like there is on real estate. They wont drive or enjoy the car for what it is they just think they can make a killing on it.As far as bastardizing the hobby,I think that's a real problem and have watched what it did to Harley Davidson Motorcycles. In fact I think a lot of the Doctors Lawyers and Indian Chiefs who got into the Harleys have now gone into classic cars.
Some of us remember when you could buy a daily rider Harley for $2500.00 or so.Now if it has the Harley name and runs it's worth $10,000.00 or more. The average hobbyist can't afford to play with the $$$ boys willing to spend enough to"Show the other guy I can too buy that car" Even 4 door cars are starting to be worth something.I can remember people giving 4 doors away for parts cars.A lot of them would be worth big $$$ now. OK Now I'll get off my soapbox.Sorry if I hijacked this just really gets to me.

That truck that's going up on the block looks identical to 71see10s before it was dropped except his is much cleaner under the hood.

Re: Barrett - Jackson Auction
Wow, I got more reaction to this thread than I anticipated. I do agree with the comments here especially the one about people thinking their 70 Nova 6 banger with holes in the floor and a rusted body is worth 10k.. Although it ticks us off isnt this capitalism and the American way in its purest form..
