newbie questions
First, I know little about cars and trucks other than I *love* 71 and 72 Chevy pickups. I just bought a 72 and I have some basic questions. Let me also say that I would have preferred a 71 for sentimental reasons (dad had one) and that I am not worried about restoring it to perfection.
1. I keep reading that the aftermarket door panels for the 72's do not fit right. Will door panels for a 71 fit my doors? Please cut me slack here... at least I'm not cutting my dash. 2. My truck is brown and has a white cab. Is the white cab a 72 thing or did other years have the white cab as well? 3. I want to paint my truck blue. Does anyone know the name of the factory blue for these trucks? Thanks in advance for any responses. I have been reading more than I have been posting and this board has the friendliest community I think I have ever seen. I like the spirit here. Just happy to see this place is more about helping each other than flaming each other (semi-)anonymously. |

welcome to the board....
1. I believe there's a difference in the length of the shafts that the door and window handles attach to, on 72 only, so you may have to stick with 72 door panels, someone can clarify this. 2. The white cab is not a 72 only option. 3. For 72, the code for medium blue is 523, and it's called Dark Blue, even tho it's really a medium blue in my opinion.... I know because mine is this color.... there were several shades of blue offered.

My '72 "was" blue with a white top. The option number was 542 - White/Medium Blue.
Not sure if that number would help at the paint store or not. The last time I painted it factory color the book at the store just said 1972 Medium Blue. |

What does NOS mean? And what do all those posts I see with just "ttt" mean?

Welcome and NOS means New Old Stock, and ttt means to the top. Someone uses it to get their post back to the top of the board. Jeff.

Memory is fuzzy (old-timer's disease) so someone else chime in here. But I seem to remember reading that the door panels will work even though the holes don't line up right. If you try to ad the woodgrain inserts though, you're pretty much screwed. Is that right, or am I at least close?

Not an expert but just looking at the parts catalogs ,,,,, the '72 door panels, window regulators and latch controls are different than '67-'71.
Just a (expensive) thought ,,,,,,, could you change the window regulator and latch control to a '67-'71 ,,,,, is the shaft length the only difference???

I hope they will work. My truck's interior is pretty fugly right now. I don't even have the truck yet (waiting on shipping), but here is a pic. Anyone interested can go to my website (see my sig) for a couple more pics.
The woodgrain thing is a non-issue for me because I prefer the more "plain" look. Thanks for the answers guys.
