Northern Auto Parts kits are they any good??
I was looking at their engine rebuild kits and they seem like wwwaaayyy cheap. $237 for a 307 rebuild with pistons, cam and lifters, bearings, gaskets, and all that good stuff. Are any of the parts any good? I mean a set of pistons cost about that much. Is there something wrong with the pistons, or cam? Because their cam kit is only $53.
Has anybody ever used them, and have you had any problems with them??

Re: Northern Auto Parts kits are they any good??
I hope they are good. I just did a 350 for my nephew using their kit. I won't know for a while until he finishes his truck. They had name brand parts in the kit. Only problem we had was the crank was supposed to be a 30/30 but the last main journal was tight. Machine shop problem not Northern's.

Re: Northern Auto Parts kits are they any good??
Well I hope that there are some good parts in it, I don't want it crappin out on me in 20,000 miles or so. I;m not one to let engines take it easy, I put the foot to the floor till I'm happy with the speed I'm at. Although I haven't bought it yet so if someone has some bad info please let me know.
Keep them comin.

Re: Northern Auto Parts kits are they any good??
I buy some stuff from them and the person who rebuilt my 400 sbc used one of their rebuild kits. Their engine kits mostly use Melling cams unless you specify otherwise. From my research, their kits are quality.

Re: Northern Auto Parts kits are they any good??
My dad rebuilt the 350 in his truck with one of these kits about 10 years ago and it is just now starting to show some slight signs of needing an overhaul.
He's used it to pull the camper for several summers, the boat every summer, and haul our dirt bikes. http://www.northernautoparts.com/ Last edited by OleBlue69; 12-23-2006 at 07:14 PM. Reason: adding a link |

They have all Federal Mogul parts, so they have to be good kits.
