Toolboxes
Hey all, I've been shopping for a crossover toolbox for the back of my 81 chev c10. I really like some of the delta boxes that I've seen.
Any input or brands I should check out before I buy? |

Re: Toolboxes
I have a Kobalt brand box sold by Lowes that I am real happy with. It is made by one of the companies that builds the other tool boxes, I forget which one. Mine is deep enough that I can put my 5 gallon tool bucket in it. The only problem I have is that a deep tool box on a shortbed severely limits what you can haul.
I bought this one during one of the periodic Lowes sales and got $50 off the normal $250 price. |

Re: Toolboxes
I have a white delta boxes, it is a single door that opens towards the cab. I like it better so you can put longer objects in it and not be limited by the winged doors. It has started cracking where the hinge mounts but I have had it for 8yrs. The only other problem I had was the button on the passenger side fell out, but you could still stick your finger in the hole and open it. It locks just from the drivers side.

Re: Toolboxes
I have them on all 3 of my trucks. They all came from Lowes and what ever you decide to get just make sure you get the full opening lid and not the butterfly type. They can be a real pain to get into if what you need is in the center of the box.

Re: Toolboxes
IMHO the best truck boxes ever made are Weatherguard by Knaack. They cost a bit more than your average lowes or Home Depot boxes but they tend to be slightly better made and thier locking mechanisms are tougher (plus I think thier still made here in the good ole U.S.of A).

Re: Toolboxes
Anybody got any opinions on tool boxes? Definitely want one but I am debating on whether chrome or black would look better.
Also debating if I should put a bed rail guard rail on under it. Maybe one black and one chrome. |

Re: Toolboxes
I would go black because chrome you will have to polish or it will tarnish over time.

Re: Toolboxes
I just bought a used smooth aluminum Pro Tech. It is the kind that sits in the bed and does not overhang the bed sides. 60w 24 deep 20 tall. I am going to polish it and install it on my flat bed. They are very expensive new and the quality is top notch. It will be in my build thread some day.

Re: Toolboxes
To retain the most bet utility, consider side boxes. They are expensive but you can still have 4' x 8' use at the full depth of the bed.

Re: Toolboxes
I got a black DeeZee box. Decent quality. Decent price. And the bike still fits so I'm not complaining!
