Best GM Tilt Steering Column for 69 C-10?
In a month or so I'll be rebuilding the interior of my C10 and I'm considering upgrading to a tilt column. Budget for the job wont accommodate the aftermarket setups (Ididit, Flaming River, etc) and have a couple questions about the best used columns to look for in a junkyard. My budget is about $100 for the column upgrade. The truck has power steering. TH400 shifter will get mounted in the console. No cruise control or other fancy wiring requirements.
I don't have a lathe, welder or lots of time to scrounge for special adapters, so I want a simple bolt in install. Ideally, what should I look for? Thanks.

With those restrictions Good Luck,
The chances are very slim that you can find one, the only other model year that fits are the van ones and you will need to do some simple modifications to get them to work. If you want a tilt steering column you will need to spend about $200 bucks and you can get a nice aftermarket steering wheel for a little more.

I've found factory tilts in jy's for $100, but I was LUCKY. Van tilts are easier to score in jy's and cheaper (around here anyways) and if you're gonna mount the shifter on the console you can elimnate the Neutral Safety Switch and maybe make it a little easier.

Re: Best GM Tilt Steering Column for 69 C-10?
I have a mid 70s van column that I have been considering for my '69. It needs shortened but that is easy. The harder part will be the wiring. You can switch to the column mounted ignition switch or stay with the original. Someone on here some time back showed how to fill the column hole if you remove that one.
I also have a '74 Corvette tilt telescopic left over from another project that is about right in length. You'd still have the ignition switch issue and also have to switch to a floor shift, as you said you were going to do. For your budget forget the Corvette. Good used ones are $400. and up. Tom

I purchased a Flaming River tilt column for my 66 Chevelle, w/ 4 way flashers, wiring connector, Double D Borgeson joint, and levers off ebay a few years ago for around $400. You can paint to match, also. The guy was a Flaming River distributor, and I saved about $80, rather than buying it thru Summit or Jegs.

just look for a van tilt, if you are careful you can get one and for 100.00. as for wiring, just buy the pugtail that plugs in.

or go to the junk yard yourself and locate the van tilt... I used to get them all day long here for 15 - 25 bucks, but they are getting far and few between these days. Still cheap though.

Re: Best GM Tilt Steering Column for 69 C-10?
I've got this one on my 72 that was going to be my donor truck and I wanted to put it in my 71. I am not trying to sell it here, of course, just curious what these are going for these days. How hard are these to swap out and what does it do the value of a truck to add a factory option that is not listed on the glove box?
