blackbirdcustoms vs. impala ss rear brake kit

I've narrowed my rear brake conversion to these two options. Are one of these setups more "heavy-duty" than the other? I'm going to be running large diameter wheels, so I want the better of the two if there is a difference. It's kind of hard to compare because you don't know what is in the blackbird kit until after you buy, but he did tell me the rotor is 1 1/4 thick which is thicker than any rotor in one of these rear break conversion kits that I have seen. Maybe somebody that has purchased his kit can chime in.

yea, that's why I am asking this question. I need to decide which way to go so I don't miss out on the brackets if I go the imapla route.

Maybe Blackbird will run a special again. I didn't have my truck when they ran it last time, but I know I'm feeling like a squirrel gathering bits and pieces everywhere to assemble a rear disk system.

Well, the impala setup is a pretty simple deal - brackets from glock and one stop to the parts store. I just want to know if one is more durable than the other.

I guess that makes sense. BB could be using calipers from 2000lb Civic for our 4000lb truck.

I would go with the SS ones cuz that setup is off of a heavy car....

I know a couple local guys here in Spokane who have bought stuff from Blackbird for thier 4x4s and have good things to say. I think his stuff is rather heavy duty, as it is mostly designed for the 4x4 guys.

IIRC the blackbird uses Caddy eldorado calipers w\ebrake.

I bought the Blackbird a few years ago but the truck is not done yet that I installed it on. It uses 78 Caddy Eldorado stuff for the compoonents. The brake pads are the same as the fronts. The calipers are basically the same as the front units but have the E-brake added. I would have to say that they are heavy duty.
Things I don't like about the system is the brake discs are inset pretty far. I think I have some pics that I can post but I'll have to find them. Hope this helps.

Thanks Vince. Are the rotors Eldorado too. If you can, can you measure the thickness of those rotors?

any other opinions? Assuming the blackbird rotor is 1.25" thick and the impala is about 1", is that difference significant? I'm thinking maybe the thicker one would cool and dissipate heat better, or maybe I'm thinking about this too much??

I would think the impala/caprice rotor would be fine. Those cars certainly have more weight over the axle than our trucks do. Factoring in the weight transfer under braking, I think they're more than adequate.

i have the blackbird setup with no ebrake (that was the deal) and i still dont know what the parts are for replacement.. (havent asked) but the stuff definitely seems big and beefy and high quality. what are the replacement parts off of? my rotors are 6 lug and i cant figure out how that would be 'off the shelf' but otherwise im very very satisfied with the kit.

Our kit can be built 2 ways for you. The kit we sell right now uses the 80-85 seville calipers for the ebrake setup. without ebrake they are the 80 monte caliper.
Or we can build it for you with the larger setup eldorado caliper.

we went to the smaller caliper for ease of finding them more available than the larger eldo calipers, with no loss of stopping power. Our kits are on trucks with tires up to 36" for the smaller caliper with no issues.

Yes we will tell you what part numbers you need for replacement parts only after you have become a paid customer. We like to be in buisness for selling complete no questions asked complete rear disc setups and we couldn't do that if we gave away trade secrets of what we use.Please understand.

We have seen to many issues of people buying just brackets and piecing a kit together...
