Re: What is seam sealer
3M, don't have the specific type but someone will. I plan on using it on the Suburban ASAP once I get the small roof areas patched up.

Re: What is seam sealer
Anywhere you have, well a seam, lol. I use it anywhere I am not welding a panel in solid but still need it to seal. GM used it alot to seal seams that were held together with spot welds

Re: What is seam sealer
3M and Fusor are the only 2 I have used. Almost every paint compnay has one but they are all much the same.
Fusor has some great stuff and neat options like self-leveling, brushable, etc.

Re: What is seam sealer
there is a good writeup around here that covers types of seam sealers. Search the forum for "shave drip rail" or "drip rail shave" and lots of them are covered there. i know this isn't a ton of help, i just remember the thread well and 2-3 diff't products were discussed in detail if memory serves ....

Re: What is seam sealer
oh - and where should it be used? Where body seams meet and need sealing. at least two places i know are the drip rail and the seam across the middle of the floor (under the breake pedals, from door jamb to door jamb across the truck)

Re: What is seam sealer
ok, so if you are welding a panel completely, say a floor, there's no need for it??
why wouldn't you always weld it completely? |

Re: What is seam sealer
In the case of the cab, esspecially with the cab floor, you need can only stamp out sheets so big. You can't just pour out a cab. You also need to make it possible to tear it apart later in the case you need to replace something. I suppose using the type of joint along the floor and roof seam also keeps things adjustable for the work line. Spot welding also takes a fraction of the time. You're talking about reducing work time by 80% to assemble, and there's no use for the added strength.

Re: What is seam sealer
3M Automix seam sealers are the best I have found, it's what all of the professional body shops use around here. They don't shrink, crack, or peel over time like most of the others. There's 2 versions Heavy-Bodied #08308 and Self-leveling #08307
