Yet another pulley question.

I think I figured out why my alternator, power steering & water pump pulleys were mismatched. But to spare you the drama, I’ll get to my question.
Here are the numbers that are on the pulleys.
The thin inner is stamped steel single v-groove with the # 3755820BG.
The outer is cast iron double with one slightly large v-groove (which will be in the middle when installed)
The number is C4296.
Thanks for any info or pictures that can clear this up.

that sure looks like the right stuff to me..i wound up with a double rear pulley
because it's the only one i could get at the time..

i only use three..one extra never hurts..

hummmm yours does look a little different there dean...

now that we can look at the different pictures...maybe i have the incorrect ones. i know my truck had engine work before i got it..but that cast crank pulley's what came on it..and i had no rear pulley.. so i got mine from teeitup

best send randy a p.m. and ask him for the correct pulley set.

i know he can do it..he's a pulley expert. he's seen more pulley's than me and you together...

The ones I just installed last night match th e4 groove set shown above. I will be using the first groove (against block) on the crank and water pump for a safty belt. It is just a small tight belt that only goes around the water pump and crank that way if you throw a longer alt or PS belt you still can drive to a safe area to fix it with out any over heating problems.

What is the e4 off of originally? Can you post a picture of your setup? I like your idea, too.

I am not sure I just got this truck yesterday and it was all in boxes so no idea what it is from. But this truck is a factory A/C truck so it may be stock. I have been doing this single short belt since my first v8 build some 20yrs ago. My buddy's dad used to build road race cars and it was a trick they would do and it works well. You need to find a belt that is to tight to slip on and then hook it on the crank first and then tip the water pump pully top first on and fight it the rest of the way. Now this belt will not be real tight but good enough for turning the water pump for awhile and keeping the motor alive. My first v8 was a 64 nova with a 65 vett 327 that would sing past 7k and toss belts every now and then. It was a stock belt set up and that sucker was about 4' long with the alt hanging way off the drivers side vett rams horn manifold.

Yes it is the ultra short pump that sits against the timming chain cover. I don't know about everyone else but I have come accross 3 different water pump off sets. Ultra short where the back of the pump hits the timming cover. Short where their is about 5/8" of a gap and Long were their is like an 1 1/2" or so. I know the Ultra shorts came on the early vetts and I guess some of these trucks as well.

Now I have also had new water pumps that did not line up right and I have had to "fix" it. What I had to do was remove the back cover of the water pump and place it in a press with a wook block under the pump against the water impeller and then put an impact socket against the pully flange and press that flange down the amount that is was off. I don't know if they are all pressed on but I think they are and so you can do fine adjustments this way. But don't tell anyone as it is only my trick that only I am allowed to do!

I think I may have an ultra short water pump on my truck. it’s so close to the timing cover.
