How Are You Guy's Locking Your Hood?
well sorry if you thought i had the trick..i don't..
just wondering what if anything folks are doing to keep some bone head from popping your hood and taking the goods... as much money as we spend on these trucks, just seems there should or would be something other than busting out the grill and drilling a hole in the hood for a chain i just seen where a members air cleaner and spacer got ripped off and they did not even close the hood...HOW RUDE i am sure a few people would have some interest in this prospect |

Re: How Are You Guy's Locking Your Hood?
I am not quite sure how to do this, but in theory how about swapping a late model hood latch where you have to pull the handel inside the cab to get the latch to release and then have to open the hood. I am sure someone has done this, but I have thought about it.

Re: How Are You Guy's Locking Your Hood?
I dont have an inner grille so I just wrap a bike chain around the hood latch. It wont stop them all but at least it will slow them down for a while...

Re: How Are You Guy's Locking Your Hood?
I think instead of putting a chain around the hood, I'll put it around this. His doscile look is deceiving.

Re: How Are You Guy's Locking Your Hood?
Reminds me when I got my 48 chevy fleetline I looked all over the front end of that car looking for a hood latch, never could find one cause it had a pull cable from inside the car,yes this was factory back in 1948,learn something new everyday.

Re: How Are You Guy's Locking Your Hood?
I lock both my trucks with a cable I rigged up from Home Depot. I bought 4 foot of cable, then I got two swedges and made loops for a padlock. The cable is small enough to rout thru what ever you want under that hood. When I put it on, I hide the locked cable up in there so no one notices it. Works well. The down side is theives are going in under the trucks and stealing stuff these days. Good Luck!

Re: How Are You Guy's Locking Your Hood?
heres something my buddy showed me, so if you dont want to go the latch route you could always do this...http://www.topsecretjpn.com/ac.shtml seems pretty cool but i doubt it would look good on every truck

Re: How Are You Guy's Locking Your Hood?
I Mad a "L" Shaped piece of solid metal about 3/8 square with a hole drilled in the end for a padlock. Once the hood is closed reach under thru the grill and drop the L piece in the hole where the latch would move back to open. Then install the lock. Works very well, and inexpencive. Only drawback is that it only works with GMC grills, no hole big enough to put your hand thru on a Chev.

Re: How Are You Guy's Locking Your Hood?
I want to do something like the cable setup at some point.
As for theft deterrents go, the switchbox I got for my air ride setup has an alarm input that pancakes. It also has a valet key on the side, so you can turn the switches off. It would be even cooler if my truck laid out. Still hard to drive and nearly impassible to tow. |

Re: How Are You Guy's Locking Your Hood?
Heres another option. I have a similar one I bought at Napa without the key lock.
