2wd 1/2 ton to 3/4 conversion question
Looking for some input on a project I have in mind. I have a nice 2 wheel drive, 1/2 ton 1985 long bed pickup. Recently I got a line on a 2 wheel drive 1983 3/4 ton suburban with a 454 in it for cheap money (Body rotted but drivetrain & frame good). Engine /tranny swap is not a problem. My question is are any of the frame points different? Can I remove all suspension, upper / lower control arms, front & rear springs & shocks and just move over to the 1/2 ton frame?
I had just planned on doing the motor / trans swap but figure if I can upgrade the whole unit......why not. Thanks |

I'm not so sure you'll be able to get much of it to fit. I know that the burb frame is taller than a pickup frame for sure, and that the rear spring hangers may be different too..

Re: 2wd 1/2 ton to 3/4 conversion question
No point in the suspension swap IMO. Maybe the rear springs but they probably aren't the same length [even 1/2tons had 2 different sizes] and 1/2ton HD 8 pack leafs are easy enough to get [both my 1/2's had em] I would just put some helper air bags back there myself.
Motor and th400 are worth swapping though
