4.1L 250 questions
i just got a 76 lwb with the 250 in it. it had 3 on the tree but we just put it on the floor. it runs ok it just feel like its missing a little. when its running down the highway it is ok or when u rev it, it just misses when it is ideling. it has new plugs, the wires look ok and the cap was pretty good. the timing i think is ok. but anyway how are these engines? reliable and what to look for?

Re: 4.1L 250 questions
There are several things to look at. Did you mean 76 or 67. Looks can be deceiving on cap, rotor, points etc.. Either just replace all of that since it's cheap or at least check points gap. Next do a little carb cleaning and inspection. Wires also really can't be judged by the looks. Hope this helps you get started.

Re: 4.1L 250 questions
I guess depends on if it's stock or cammed. Mine is bored over and has mild cam with straight pipe (until I find split headers I like) and it does lope a little at idle till you come on cam.

Re: 4.1L 250 questions
I like the straight pipe so I will go for something along the lines of chambered muffler when I split the headers. I like more rumble and less of the angry bumblebee sound. At high rpm with straight it does have alot of the angry sound. Im still working on interior though and can't drive it right now.

Oh hey check these out too. http://www.inliners.org/ and http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/ When your searching also use names like stovebolt, inline six, 250 and 292 pretty much interchangeable info. Also how do you like the floor conversion? I don't really like mine at all.

Re: 4.1L 250 questions
Those truck universal shifters aren't that good. Try stepping up to the $200 one and shifting will be fine and not in the seat. My 292 was all tuned up, cap, plugs, wires, points, carb rebuild and running much better but still had a miss at idle. valve was bad.
These things when running right are like a sewing mahcine and smoother than a v8.
