any one using solid motor mounts in a street car?

Been there done that did'nt like it. Too much vibration. I switched to urethane mounts and they worked great.

I did and it was not very cool. You will feel every little tick in the motor/drivetrain. If it is a race car, then go for it, or if want your fillings rattled out. It's your's if you want to do then do it, don't take a complete strangers word for it.

Are the stock style not any good? I need to know this because I’m going to replace mine soon. Should I be looking at something different?

The original mounts that came from the factory were junk! They would break and let the engine flop all over the place. Replacement mounts since about 1972 have been redesigned so if the rubber does break, steel ears keep the engine in place.

GM had a recall on the old mounts around 1973. Any they didn't replace, have most likely broken and been replaced long ago. I doubt there are any of the old ones around anymore so you don't have to worry about finding any. I replaced mine with NAPA stock mounts and they have been great. They have the safety ears on them so if they would break, the engine still stays in place. My NAPA mounts hasn't separated like the factory ones did. They seem much stronger. I replaced them in 1973 and they are still ok. I'm sure all aftermarket mounts have the safety ears on them due to liability concerns.

A friend's father had them in an El Camino, holding a 600+ HP ex-Cup engine. Solid tranny mounts too, with a 4-speed. It went like stink, but that thing was not what I consider streetable. It was a Big Boy's Toy. Very harsh.

yeah i went to a junk yard today and found a 68 with 73 up mounts so i took those but its missing the mount pads and the brackets for the motor
