Re: numbers on heads
441's are a decent performance head when worked right. They were on 275hp police motors aswell.

Quote:
I'd have them ported and polished, 2.02 and 1.60 valves, a small cam, good 4bbl intake, good sized carb (650cfm), will get you 350hp easily. Everyone rides old iron heads into the ground, but I ran low 10's on a set from the mid 60's.

Re: numbers on heads
Not to dissagree with 1BadSS I use the stock steel heads on a lot of builds myself, But it depends on what the person is after budget and performance taken into account. 441 are the run of the mill truck head. IMO its not cost effective to port polish and install 2.02 1.60 valves in these. Taken into account what can be had for less money and better performance right out of the box. I don't want to step on anyones toes just my .02 good luck with the build

Re: numbers on heads
with racingjason, By the time you spend all the money to work them right. You could have bought a new set of performance heads. I know, I have a set of heads I had worked. By the time I had all the machine work done and hours spent porting and polishing my old 041's. I could have had a good set of world product heads.
also like racinjason. I am not trying to step on anybodies toes. just telling you my experience. If you decide to use Vortec heads, Keep in mind you will also need to get a Vortec intake. I would weigh my odds. |

Re: numbers on heads
i agree it is to expensive to fix up old heads for the cost of better ones. | have found that light port work to remove casting flash and sharp corners and keeping 194 150 valves is better for low end torque, and is pretty cheap

Re: numbers on heads
Currently It has a EB RPM Air Gap intake. An EB 700cfm carb. energizer Crane Cam and 3 years new. i'd rather not change any of that, my question is, did my PO know what he was doing when he used these heads with the rest of the set up and if so, should i just have the heads 'mildly worked', would this produce 350hp ?

Re: numbers on heads
IMO heads mildly worked and depending soley on the exact cam's specs you should be close to your mark. I think you would have a nice daily driver
