How can I remove this rust?

This piece is the radiator support on the bottom I have tried different size wirewheels and I cant get into the corners to remove the rest. Any suggestions?

Small sand blaster or if you are using POR15 then that is just the right amount of grip the paint likes!

No sandblaster here I dont have por15 but eastwoods rust encapsulator is on its way. Wonder if rust mort will do the trick to?

Muratic acid. Comes in gallon jugs and is about $5 buck a gallon. You get it at any hardware or home center. You will need a respirator with this stuff or it will knock you on your a$$. Use a chip brush to brush it on and then cover with paper towels and keep it wet with acid. Should take a couple hours to get it nice and clean. Be sure not to get it on concrete, it eats it up. Oh here is something else. I use a 5 gallon buck with 2 gallons of acid to 2 gallons water to dip small parts. Quick easy and cheap. Takes all rust and paint off quickly.

Doesn't water neutralize muratic acid?

I used the eastwoods too and that is clean enough for it right now. I used the two part converter then rust encapsulator and their epoxy chassis paint on top of that. Works great and looks great too

In large amounts it does. But a 25% acid mix or more works fine. I dilloute it with water for light rust but even a 50/50 mix removed that nice scale rust off of my front a arms in a day! Use it straight and it will take heavy scale rust off in about 1 hour. Oh yah, you will also need chemical gloves for this stuff to or it will burn you bad.

I use muriatic acid myself on things and finish with phosphoric acid to stop the new rust. And I only use it with a lot of ventilation!

I just remembered cleaning a pool at a retirement home when I was in high school and used muratic and just washed it off.
Thank you for clearing that up and alos thank for the tip I'm sure I will use that advise in the future

Yah outside use only with that stuff. I have tried to find the phosphoric acid around here but it is pretty hard to find when I look for it.

To slow! Naval jelly compared to muratic acid is like comparing a 3cyl geo to a blown big block with nitrous. That would be the best way to explain it.

A small twisted wire cup brush on a drill is good to get into those small places. Also a small straight wire brush in a die grinder at high speed works. The high speed makes the wires spread out and work better. Wear safety glasses.

Picklex 20 is excellent. I did my whole frame with it before painting.

Muriatic acid can be purchased at Lowe's or Home Depot ... or at least around here they can.

Brick masons use it to "clean" the extra mortar off of bricks once they are finished laying the brick.

Harbor Freight has a small handheld sandblaster for about $15 and then you just need some blasting media. I bought some play sand at HomeDepot to rough up some chrome headlight bezels for paint. Needed to be sifted though to get the pebbles out. I know sand isn't a good media but it worked.

A good place to find sand blasting sand is small hardware stores such as mom and pop stores or farm supply stores. I get my sand at a local mom and pop hardware store for like $6 for a 50# bag.

If you have a compressor the small handheld blasters (search for Speed Blaster) are great for that type of clean up. After you blast apply some Picklex 20 and your ready for prime and paint.

Muriatic is nutralized by big amounts of water, but just by itself it can remove heavy stuff. i never seen someone use it on rust and yes you will need some safety equipment with the acid and have water nearby because if it got on your skin it will burn, i know i use it on pool. i also seen por 15 and i works and looks good but i sand blasted part of a frame and it just looks and remove everything beter

Chap, I had learned it from my aunt, she has a pool but fills with well water and it had a high iron content, brown rusty colored water, and she added the muratic acid to clean it up and so I began playing with the mix to get the right amount of power.
