Body to rear bumper seal questions
My son's 72 Burb did not have a seal between the rear bumper and the body but the Assembly Manual shows one.
Does anyone have a seal on their Burb? If not is there a dirt problem on the back from water splashing up? We are thinking about making one out of rubber, (I made one for my 69 El Camino and it works very well). If anyone has made one, how did you fasten it to the body? (The manual shows that it it screwed on but our Burb does not have holes). Any comments would be appreciated. Jim |

Re: Body to rear bumper seal questions
Mine doesn't have one. Although I don't get a lot of dirt back there, a rubber seal would help.

Re: Body to rear bumper seal questions
My 71' doesn't have one. My 72' has 2 pieces of "sheetmetal" between the body & bumper but I don't really think it's original to the truck. It used to be a push truck for the local dirt track so they modified some stuff on it...

Re: Body to rear bumper seal questions
Owned a few burbs and looked at many more over past 39 years, that is news to me. I wonder if pickup splash guards would fit? Same purpose.

Re: Body to rear bumper seal questions
Thanks for the replies!
I am starting to back off on the idea of a bumper seal. From the replies it does not appear that Burbs were equipped with seals and no one mentioned any serious dirt problems. I am attaching a pic of the seal in the Assembly Manual. I believe that the seal as pictured could lead to serious rust problems as dirt and water could build up between the seal and body extension. Thanks again for the input! Jim |
