6 lug Disk Break swap, cheapist way???? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

What is the least expensive way to put six lug disks, on a 68.
I know their are some spindle swaps that people are doing from other trucks but everything I have seen is a five lug.
Is their a way to do this inexspensively or do I have to go with a kit like ECE or CPP offers.

There was a kit that used a slip on rotor and caliper brackets that used the existing brake drum spindales and hubs. I will see if I can find the link. They did it in a magazine a few years back lets see if I can find the magazine this time.

I bought a complete suspension off a 71 GMC for $120 at a junkyard, swapped everything, then bought the expensive ECE rotors.

I got a 2.5" drop spindle kit from GMC Pauls for $460. Those guys want $670? Ouch!

That to me was the most straight forward way to do it. I kept all my '69 steering related stuff and all the ball joints and everything, just got the drop spindle and the better bearings.

not sure here, but would anything from the 97 or so z71 fit, i know its 4x4, i dont know anything about it, but just figured maybe something would work.

I put spindles from a 88-92 Chevrolet C2500 2wd (Lt. 3/4 ton uses 6 lug disc) on my truck... I did need to research the tie rod ends, and ball joints...
I used the 88-92 Spindle, caliper, rotor, ball joints (upper & lower). I used a mid-70's 3/4 ton lower control arm... (ball joint hole is larger and fits the 88-92 ball joint) Tie rod end I don't remember but it did all work... I did happen to have alot of this stuff already, so it made it cheaper for me.
I got the idea from a guy from Dallas. He may have more info... I'll try and find his name and repost it or do a search for the original thread. all his info was correct and right on...

Swap the whole front end from a '73-'87 (H.D. Front Rotors 1.25" Thick) Truck under it - the whole crossmemeber will bolt in - or you can put all the control arms, spindles, steering links etc on the '68 crossmember. The rubber brake hoses will need to be from a '71-'72 to work correctly.

Then buy the 6 lug rotors and put them on.
