Has anyone ever chopped a top 1 inch? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I want to lower the top but dont want it to look like a chopped truck. No offense to the chopped trucks because they look cool too. Any pictures out there?

no one in there right mind would chop a roof 1 in. there are many reasons for this but the big one is you really can't tell it's been chopped 1 inch. the smallest chop is usualy 3 inches because it's enough to be noticable but still maintain head room. i have heard of less but thats usualy on larger cars and it's usualy for a wedge chop. i.e. 3in in front 1in in back.

chopping a top is alot more than just cutting the top. you also have to think about custom windsheild, choping the doors, many times you have to widen the roof to make it fit, exc. it's alot of work and it might be worth it to farm it out if your not great with body work.

I chopped mine 4, but I have seen a couple that were around 2" on the chop that looked really sweet. My opinion (everyones different), is that these trucks take to a 2-4" chop very nicely. I doubt that I would go through the work for just 1" off the top tho....2 maybe works tho

The slick thing, that you look for is a truck that does not look altered.......but, nobody can quite figure out why it looks so much better than the one right next to it. That is what really makes it! If thats what you are looking for, IMO, I would go 1 3/4-2" on the chop......I did take 4" off mine to be noticed

This one has a mild angle chop I think it's something like a 2 inch. The truck belongs to a board member so someone may have more detailed info if it is close to the look you want.

Check with chopped 71, he has a sweet one. And the front and rear windows were critical.

It gives a GREAT look...very subtle effect when you only go 2", but MAN that's a bunch o' work. That's probably why most chop tops I've seen have a more dramatic look, ie. 4"-5", which imho is too much. 1" would probably not even be noticed, much to your dismay. Only you would know it's there.

Also, I think the chops look a little better when they are slightly raked forward, rather than being completely level. Gives it a bit more racy, aggro look.
