Headers Or No Headers
I am contemplating putting on a set of Hooker 2454's on my '72 402-powered C-20 2wd truck.
I have dual exhausts now with the stock iron manifolds. I am running a mild Comp Cams XE252 (low-end grunt towing cam) Edelbrock #1903 Q'jet carb atop a Performer intake and a re-curved HEI. I was running a Megasquirt/TBI setup prior and although it ran well I just like the simplicity of a carb and HEI so I ditched it and went back to a carb. I am going to wrap the primaries of the headers with heat wrap as well. This is basically used as my camper truck. Am I going to get any benefit out of a set of headers on this engine or am I wasting my money? Thanx, Bud |

My opinion is,yes,you`re better off.Plus,you can wrap the headers.

i say headers, youll gain some highway cruzing power and will get better MPG

I also agree on getting the headers - plus with a bbc, I think there are less header problems than with them on a sbc. I'd be leary of the wrap - it will hold in moisture and lead to quicker rust. I'd go with a set of ceramic coated headers if I were you - they drastically reduce heat in the engine compartment. I'm using a pair of Dynomax's ceramacoated headers on my bbc. I'm very happy with them.
