Lock Ring Wrench

Hey

I am looking for Kent Moore J-24187 (or eq.) locking wring wrench used to secure locking ring on a gas tank fuel pickup assembly. I have seen reports of people using two flat blade screw drivers. I rather have correct tool then busting my knuckles.

Kent Moore was purchased by SPX Corporation and they do not offer any sales outside their sales network which provides specialty tools to authorized car dealers. Does any one know if any other tool company produces equivalent tool (J-24187)? BTW tank opening is about 4 inch diameter on my ‘75 tanks.

Thanks for reading
RF

Re: Lock Ring Wrench

You can also use a brass drift if you are worried about sparks around the fuel sender retainer. Those are a lot easier to come by. When you are locking/unlocking the ring, there is only about 3/4" of motion. I have always used a flat blade screwdriver with satisfactory results.

Re: Lock Ring Wrench

When i did mine i removed the bed (only cause i want to clean the frame up. But the fuel sending was there so it was more of a convinance for me) But i used a flat head screw driver and a hammer. Worked fine for me.

But if ur looking for that tool id true autozone they have a real good sellection of oem tools or they might have one to rent.

Re: Lock Ring Wrench

I made my own wrench out of some flat metal and welded it to make the connections to the ring. Nothing more than a big spanner wrench.
