MotoR queStion
Ok so remember that 327 I bought for 30 bucks? I flipped it over to look at the main bearings and I ran the crankshaft casting and it came up as a 350 "3.48 stroke, is this common to put a 350 crank in a 327 block , and what does that make the cubic inch of the motor now? also wear would the size of the pistons be stamped, would it be visable with the oil pan off and the motor upside down? Other than that the motor looks good to go thrust bearing seems good all main bearings are solid and no signs of exsessive wear. ooooohhhh yeah and the cam gear has a s390 stamped on it anyway to tell what kind of cam is in it just by that it also has a "A" and an "S" that are overlapping like the center section of the "A" makes the center line of the "S" you know what I mean I'll post a pic if you want

Think the pistons would make this a 327 or 350 . Has to do with the location of the wrist pin . Not necessaryly the crank . MY .02%

for it to have the 350 crank in it, it would also use the same 5.7 rods as the 327, or any small block except 400 for that matter, and use the 350 piston. It is a 350. They are basically the same block, as long as it's a large journal block. Is it a 2 bolt main or 4? if it's a 4 bolt main, it's a 350 anyway. Some use the same casting number.

I appreciate your input but I know a lil bit about motors and the casting calls for a 327 and only a 327 its a 68-327 so its a large journal and by the looks of it it has been re-worked? so yes you are most likely right, with all the mods (rods and pistons) its a 350 but its definatly a 327 block, its a 2 bolt main, if it were a true original 327 4 bolt main it would be on ebay for 2-3 thousand dollars, being that its extremely rare to find a 327 thats a true 4 bolt, and hasn't been drilled and tapped to be a 4 bolt, mortec.com lsted it as a 1968 327 2 bolt main, and the heads 1968 40 degree slant 327 truck heads wo/ accsesery holes and 64cc, so somebody built this motor, I just wanted to know with the crank, and the pistons what cubic inch does it turn it into?,....................... thanks for the response, either way I'm going to bolt on some accessory's and drop it in my 63' and hope for the best!!!!!

a 327 has a 4" bore, as does a 350. a 327 has a 3.2502" stroke. a 350 has a 3.48" stroke. cubic inches is soley a matter of bore x stroke x number of clyinders. rod length or piston pin height doesnt matter. besides, 327's and 350's both had 5.7" rods. the large journal 327's have the same 2.450" mains and the same 2.100" rod journals as the 350's. a 350 crank will drop right into a large journal 327 with no machining required. there may need to be some clearancing of the block because the factory didnt need to remove as much material from the inside of the block for the shorter stroke of the 327. so its pretty easy to see if you put a 350 crank in a 327 block, assuming standard bore, you now have 350 cubic inches. if its .030 over, its a 355. you could possibly mic the inside bore diameter with the pan off, but it would be tight. if you pull the heads, the pistons might be stamped on top .020 .030 .040 . if not, you can mic the bore easily with the heads off. i hope this helps
