I know this is a stupid ? but how can you tell the difference between an int and ext regulated alt?

internal regulator chev alternator has a 2 blade connector with the 2 blades in line with each other, the external alt has 2 blades parallel with each other. int plug is on outside edge of alt, ext reg plug is on the back

There are 4 GM alternators that are most common ones installed today: the externally regulated alternator used on most GM vehicles from 1963 to 1974; the "SI" series alternators with internal regulator used on almost all GM vehicles from 1969 to 1985; the "CS" series alternator with internal regulator used on GM vehicles from 1986 to 1999 and finally the CS 130/CS 144 (which has an internal cooling fan) from 1994. Check yours against these pictures so you can order the correct connectors.
