new a/c pics

had the camera out taking a few pics of temp sender for another post and i snapped a couple of my winter project.i've had quite a few pm's asking about vintage air,here's a couple.i swapped compressor to passenger side and alternator to drivers.that turned into a bracket nightmare,but i got it.note the firewall,no stock box anymore.it's all tucked neatly up underdash.if your considering this mod.i can help,with some do's and don't's i learned the hard way.no a/c hoses hooked up yet,i've got to take it in and get the end's crimped on and system charged.also also some firewall work yet.

Do the covers on the fire wall for the ac box and fan come in a kit from vintage air or is this something you fabricated.

yes, it does come with kit.however mines was a factory a/c cab.they do make a kit for non a/c also.not sure if that panel would be the same.

thanks....."you can do it". it's all just bolt on stuff.with basic hand tool's.if you get in jam,you got the best tech help available for these truck's right here in this forum.i learn something everyday.

The biggest problem for me is my lack of patience. One of the reasons I got out of restoring cars.

Also, for me, I need to start with something worth doing all that work to in the first place. Maybe the Silverado is, but it's got a long way to go before I start thinking about making it look pretty. Gotta stop the rust, first.

I still say, your engine compartment is set up the way they should come from the factory. If any car I ever bought looked that good under the hood, I'd be a little more willing to pay their prices for new!!

Once you get everything hooked up, I'd be interested in hearing how it performs (winter cold/summer heat).
I have a couple of questions for you:

Could you go with a bulkhead connector on the firewall with the kit that you installed?

you bring up a good point.i thought of the bulkhead thing.and got to a point where i just wanted to get it done since the swap of compressor and alternator locations turned into a trial and error nightmare.but with my new found knowledge i think i could coach ya right thru it.i'm wondering if the bulkhead fitting would work with that panel supplied with kit.there tech dept. is very helpful but not really up on our trucks.i got the drift they really don't do a bunch of them,so there just o.k on them.if i did it over again i might look into there gen lineup(check there site) it can be ordered to fit our trucks but it gives you electronic controls instead of factory cable controls with the sure fit like i got.this is the weird part you need a non a/c factory heater control panel for the sure fit,then your placard isn't right to show a/c location,they used to supply placard but lost supplier and copy write battle.so,i had one made up at one of those vinyl decal places and it look's good.if your into a little bit of engine compartment clutter control.you would want to do the location swap like i did with alt.and compressor then you don't have hoses draped across engine.let me know if you need any other questions answered

I think I'd rather eliminate the cable controls and go with the eletronic setup. I understand the controls will need to be changed out. I agree with you about swaping the compressor and the alternator. It eliminates the hose routing clutter. I had a link to a new tech way for hose clamps. They were cool since they didn't use the screw-type clamp bands. Last year I notice one of the top street rods used a similar clamping system. It was real smoooooth...

Was it the Gates heat shrink bands?

Very clean looking clamping system. And they work very well. Fairly cheap also.

Boatpuller, The install looks great!
I had some issues with my brackets also. Header clearance problems. A little finessing with a plasma torch and it was good to go.

As for the cool billet bulkhead fitting, It's been a few years back, but I think you have to tell them when you order the kit that you want that option.
They have to adjust (shorten) the outlets to accept the billet fitting.

Again GREAT job and that motor looks killer!

Thanks for the 'PowerGrip' link 7T7. But, I one I faguely remember was completely round in shape vs. the Gates hex shape. It was also fairly cheap. I came across a few years ago. But, wouldn't you know it, I can't find the link. But, I'll keep searching. But, the Gates product doesn't look too bad. Visualizing boatpuller's mod with these would be
