Never Been So Happy To Hear A Motor Run

Well after so, so many set backs I finally got the motor cranked tonight. I haven't heard a big block on open headders in a couple years and I am hear to tell you it sounds bad ass. The cam is so big I am wondering if the 2500 stall is going to be enough, but that is what edelbrock told me to use. Here are the specs on the cam:

Brand: Edelbrock
Product Line: Edelbrock Performer RPM Cam and Lifter Kits
Cam Style: Hydraulic flat tappet
Basic Operating RPM Range: 1,500-6,500 RPM
Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift: 240
Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift: 246
Duration at 050 inch Lift: 240 int./246 exh.
Advertised Intake Duration: 300
Advertised Exhaust Duration: 306
Advertised Duration: 300 int./306 exh.
Intake Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.560 in.
Exhaust Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.573 in.
Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.560 int./0.573 exh. lift
Lobe Separation (degrees): 112
Intake Valve Lash: 0.000 in.
Exhaust Valve Lash: 0.000 in.

I also put on a set of 206 heads off a 66 396 chevelle, 1.7 roller rockers, 3/8 push rods, edelbrock pro-flo fuel injection, alabama boss hogg 2500 stall, 3:73 gears, eaton posi, patriot clipsetter headders, hydroboost off a 93 3500 chevy, 92 bbc serpentine setup and waiting on glocks new brackets so I can get the impala rear disk brakes on. As bad as it sounds with open headders I think I am going to have to get some electric cutouts so I can run a open exhaust when I want to. I still have to finish some wiring, adjust the valves, set the timing, bleed the brakes, and fix the trans dipstick leak. I will hopefully know how it performs saturday and I will let you all know.

Re: Never Been So Happy To Hear A Motor Run

The 2500 stall ought to be ok. I have run a few RPM cams in small blocks and they work fantastic. Pull hard to 7000 and still have lower end grunt. I can still pull a loaded car trailer with ease. My 68 2wd was a 350 4 speed with 3.73's and I took off like normal with the Blazer on the trailer. I didn't even know it was back there. Very good all around cam with an excellent sound.

Yep, uncorked BBC's are sweet - be interested how the cutouts work for you if you go that route.
