I have an opinion questions for you all...I have the original tires on my truck still...the ones from 1970...they are bias ply I believe...did these trucks come with radials or bias ply?? What would you do if you were going back original but still a daily driver...go with bias or radials?? I know bias run for a long time as the 1970 tires on my truck still hold air

Re: original tire question
Bias ply came stock original, I would use radial, easier to get and ride so much nicer.

Re: original tire question
All the prestine, correct, factory original resto and unrestored survivors I`ve seen still run radials.Unless it`s not ever getting driven, that`s what you`ll want. You can go as far as going to a specialty tire company that repros the original type. But,they even make tires that are duplicates of 60s-70s bias tires in radial constuction. It just makes sense.

Re: original tire question
If you are planning to drive more than just a little,I'd DEFINITELY get some good radials.

Re: original tire question
Coker Tire makes reproduction bias ply tires. If memory serves, they even make a radial tire that resembles a bias-ply tire. They tend to be kind of pricy.
I agree, for the purests most passenger-car radial tires don't look "right" on our trucks. I'd love to have some vintage bias-ply tires on my truck but I wouldn't trust them for more than show purposes. I've seen a few of the cheaper LT series truck tires that look kind of like a bias-ply tire. Check around some local tire stores.

Re: original tire question
i put about 100 miles on my 67 with what i believe to be the original tires last spring. man was that scary around jug handles
when i turned right it felt like the body of the truck was going left! ive since been driving on radials BIG DIFFERANCE! i even went and added a sway bar which made just a little differance i could of gone without the sway bar just to keep it stock but i vote for vintage looking radials i plan putting on a set of 2 inch or so white walls this summer.
