17x11 torq thrust?
Hey guy's! I'm wanting to run a 17x11 rim on my 67 short fleet, and want to know if I'm going to have any problems with clearance. I'd love to see pic's. I also have a 6 inch drop & c-notch. I don't know what tire I'll be running just yet. Thank's oldno7.

Re: 17x11 torq thrust?
Well with a 6" drop, you need to tuck, but I am not sure an 11" wide wheel with tire will fit in the stock wheelhouse. To run 20x10s, I mini tubbed mine so that the inside edge of the wheelhouse sits right on the outside edge of the frame. I have inches to spare now, but without it I don't think my 315/35/20 would fit between the bedside and the inside of the wheelhouse.
IIRC, the inside width of the stock wheelhouse 11.5" and my 315 tire is right at 12" wide, and you will need to run at least a 315 probably a 325 on an 11" wheel. I can take pictures of my bed with the wheel if it would help you, its all still in pieces . |

Hey bigsky71, Have you gotten your truck painted yet, The last I knew you were getting ready or close. Thanks for the info, and offer for that pic. I have 15x10's now. I may be able to get an idea from this set-up. I'll probably end up with 17x9.5's or something close to that. oldno7

Re: 17x11 torq thrust?
Outside not painted but the interior, jams and backs of most parts are done. Bed is still in primer because I need to add my fuel door. I am wiring now and putting the engine compartment together. The piles of parts piles are getting smaller!

Re: 17x11 torq thrust?
Looks great, I have some 325/30/20 on 20x13 (measuring outer edges of rim) and the tires are flush with the rim lip but they are on my '00, can't wait to see yours finished Big Sky, Best thing to do is measure and remeasure.

Another picture, the tire is backwards because I only got one wheel/tire initially to check my measurements and the drivers side of my truck is against the garage wall. Sorry for blurrrrrr too. |

Re: 17x11 torq thrust?
Big sky your truck is moving in the right direction and looking good. I love that rear tire set up. So all that you did was add a few inches to the wheel tube. Doesn,t the frame run right down the wheel tube or is it in a few inches?

Re: 17x11 torq thrust?
Thanks Oldno7. The time it took to fit that 9" was all worth it when I got to stuff that wheel and tire on there and see how it looked with the bedside.
About your question, I think you are asking about where the inside of my wheel tub is? Stock it sits about 5" to the outside of the frame, so I cut that part out so that the inside of my tub is even with the outside of the frame. Basically I cut the bed back to allow the largest width tire I could run with a stock frame, but I didn't use all that space, my wheel could be at least 4" wider before hiting the frame. All the additional width though would have to be to the inside of the mounting surface of the wheel. That red 68 in the Stoked Out thread is setup that way I believe [20x15 w/7" backspacing], and it looks incredible. |

Re: 17x11 torq thrust?
Great minds think alike! I did my set up about 7yrs ago and I tuck 335/35/17's but will be going to a larger tire to fill the fender well better. I went 7" on my tub job just to keep all bed lines lined up. I also have plenty of extra room (too much room).

At times I wish I had gone a little lower with my truck, like yours, but then I remind myself people up here in frozen Montana don't see any bagged rides, so mine will still be unique. My dream is to attempt a custom frame like Josh [abadsvt] is building, maybe after this truck is back on the road. . |

Re: 17x11 torq thrust?
Hey bigsky, Just wondering how much you narrowed the rearend? Did you have any issues with the trailing arms, or how about the rear spring. If you get a chance will you post some clearance pics. Thank's oldno7

I think you can go about 2.5 to 3" narrower before you get really close to the trailing arms. Also I modded my EC super track bar mount to keep it above the axle blocks, here are a few picts. Added; one thing I did have to change is the bolt pattern. My axles are at the machine shop currently getting drilled down to 5 on 5 from the Ford pattern, 5 on 5 1/4"?, not sure I just known I wanted 5 on 5 all around. Re: 17x11 torq thrust?
I'm having some of those same issue's. My 67 has the 6 lug pattern, and want to run the 5x5 TTll's. Should be running 500+ HP when it's finished. I want it to hook-up so I'll be running a soft compound tire. I now I need to have stronger axles, and a new posi, and might as well narrow it 2-3 inches. I will be using the stock frame. I guess I'm just going to bite the bullet and spend 2-3k for a new rearend. I'm also wanting to go fleetside, so It seem's to me I can't proceed with the rearend untill I get the bed for measurment's. My brother say's I think about xxxx to much and to just order something! oldno7

Re: 17x11 torq thrust?
Yea, with that much hp you will need a sturdy rear end under that baby. My mild 350 probably won't hurt my little 9" right away, besides I drive like grandma on sleeping pills.
