Smile Follow up on Longhorn purchase!

Today the 1972 Longhorn arrived home. I was somewhat disappointed with the condition of the truck. Half of the engine was inside the cab and the interior needed a lot of work. So I decided not to proceed with the purchase. Anyways, my neighbor Mark saw the truck and told me that he knew someone selling a 1968 Longhorn. I test drove the truck and decided to buy it for $600. It has a 350/400. It runs great! here are some pictures:

More pictures of the 1968 Longhorn. Is this expensive to repair?

Thanks!

Re: Follow up on Longhorn purchase!

That is a 1968 50th Anniversary Longhorn that has been painted all white. Look at my avatar. The Ivory/Gold "551" option is the key. My mother-in-law lives in Salem so I go down there quite a bit. It would be good to meet up and compare notes. I have two to them...LOL!

BTW...welcome to the board from Kent, WA!

What are your plans for the Longhorn?

Re: Follow up on Longhorn purchase!

Congratulations! When it comes time to get it painted, go for the gold.
If you know how to weld it shouldn´t cost that much.
Why are all the lucky buyers out of the great northwest?

Re: Follow up on Longhorn purchase!

???????? If that is a 68, which it is, Why is there a option for a panoramic window? I thought all 68's had a big back window

Yo tombien.Esto es un anniversario de 50 anos.Muy buenos,tiende mucho suerte y mas fotunidad.BRAVO!!!

A CustomCamper to boot!It must be a low number(early)`68.It lists the Panaramic window like it was an option.

I hate those rebuilt engines when they`re spread between the cab and engine compartment. It`s a good thing the first one lead to stumbling into a better find.

some 68's listed the window as an option, just like most 67's list the heater, even though it was standard.

Re: Follow up on Longhorn purchase!

Congrats on the steal of the century. I know its your truck but please keep it as an anniversary model. They are very hard to find, especially Longhorns. If you want to change it think about selling this one for a profit and building another with the profit.

Re: Follow up on Longhorn purchase!

I knew that buying a 68 Longhorn for $600 was good buy, but that it was a 50th anniversary, I have NO idea. You all know what the wife is saying right? SELL IT!!! Now, what do I do with a hard to find 68? I believe the truck deserve to be bring back to original state and since I do not have the resources($) or knowledge to do it myself, the truck will be going up for sale Here are more pictures for your enjoyment. I must thank Longhorn Man for his Website for introducing me to the Chevy's Longhorn.

Re: Follow up on Longhorn purchase!

Nice find. I always love it when a new Longhorn pops up especially a rare 68. It's funny about half of the 68 longhorns that have popped up this site are 50th's. The 50th anniversary promotion and the introduction of the longhorn must have coincided.

It even has a detroit locker, too. Notice the tires chirp around corners? Nice find.

Re: Follow up on Longhorn purchase!

I wonder if the SPID sticker is a retype? The style of type just doesn't look like the numerous ones I have seen. The questions we have(panarama cab, hydralic steering, lf mir, rt mir) just don't use the normal terms, etc. I think the truck is great and that all that stuff is there but maybe the sticker has been redone. No big deal if it has. I think that is the source of confusion.

Just my 2 cents - Bob

I agree that the font doesn't look the same. I'm not sure if they (chevy) changed it around across the years though. Don't get me wrong, I'll pick up the truck for more than you paid for it...???

Anyways, here's a shot of another glove box sticker. See how the font is a little different?

It would be nice if stllookn can send us a couple of pictures of his stickers , since he has two of them, to compare them with mine.
