58 apache need more opinions
I posted on here a while back looking for ideas on what to do w/ the truck im working on for my son. i found another 58 apache in parts but only surface rust. it has a title and its the original (one owner till me) but its all over his yard. he put the doors hood ect in garage and no i mean no rust on them. the cab is attached to frame still as is front end (cab has dent on top and needs cab corners). front clip in one piece also no rust. rear end unbolted from frame. still has original rims, hub caps rusted. now i was going to use the parts to fix up my first (it would be easier) but the more i see of it i hate to just waste an original. here are the specs i know it is fleet side 6 cy. (no engine or tranny) w/ the big window. the one i started on is 283 truck w/ small window and has an auto tranny. its stepside. im trying to figure out if there a lot of value in the original or if im ok just mixing the best of the two. i hope its not to confusing. i will add pics when i figure how to get the rest home. before i start i was wanting to check before somebody tells me i just wasted it and cost myself some dough. btw i paid $450 for truck so it already saved me a ton. thanks

Re: 58 apache need more opinions
It's only worth more if you're going for an all-original restoration. And not having the original engine hurts that. Also, if it were an original 283, it would help a bunch. My take, use what you need and make one nice truck. Sell what you can.

Re: 58 apache need more opinions
I know someone on here is looking for a fleet side box. Also the big back window is nice to have ( some say yes some say no). I'd use what you need then part it out to recoup some of your money. my 2cents worth.

Re: 58 apache need more opinions
yea the fleetside bed will be on it for sure. im taking it to the body man. i'll have to find a tailgate though its got a dent or 2. i was so excited about the doors because i haddnt found anything to work with. im an impatient person, i like to jump in and go at it till done. i think i'll just part out whats left. the 283 is original to the first truck i got. runs strong just no brakes. thanks for the imput, i need reassuring every once in a while. thanks

Re: 58 apache need more opinions
A lot of this is just your personal preference. If you like the big back window, go with that, and if you prefer the fleetside box over the stepside then sell the one you don't want. Just like Brian and Fred said, use what you want and sell the rest. You will no doubt find buyers for your discarded parts.

Glad to help. It sounds like you have an interesting project with a choice of nice parts. Some of the rest of us are impatient too............so where are the pics already?

Re: 58 apache need more opinions
I agree. Unless you're build a numbers matching OEM original restoration, Pick and choose your parts and sell the rest.

Re: 58 apache need more opinions
Keep First Truck With 283. Put BBW Cab On First Truck. Have Best Of Both Worlds And Increase Value With The BBW ON V-8 TRUCK. Just My 2 Cents. Jimbo
