New owner of old truck has questions
Howdy all,
I (a lifelong mopar guy) have just purchased a 1970 Chevy K20 camper special pickup. Overall its in pretty good shape. I am trying to find out where the VIN number is located on the frame. I found a number on top of framerail beside the steering box but it doesn't look like a Vin number (more like a serial #). I believe the tag on the door jamb is not original. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! CT. |

Re: New owner of old truck has questions
i know the vin's are 12 digits long (as apposed to the modern 19 i think) some where around late 70s they swaped em over.
i used gmc pauls web page to decode mine. also, vin on cab is usually in glove box. hope i could help, no idea on the frame rail vin. |

Re: New owner of old truck has questions
Vin is on an aluminum tag attached to the cab...inside the door frame. The frame number is only part of the VIN but does/should match...you already found that. There is also a VIN on the glove box door, but these are easy to change/replace. Check your title and compare against all three. The VIN and title will always follow the cab, not the frame or glove box door...at least in WA State.
BTW...Welcome to the board from sunny Kent, WA! There is place on this site that will help you decode your VIN or post it in this thread and we can do it for you.

Re: New owner of old truck has questions
Not quite acurate... close, but not quite.
CE140S152605 C ... 2 wheel drive E ... V8 1 ... 1/2ton 4 ... cab and bed (not saying fleet or step) 0 ... 1970 S ... built in st. louis 152605 ... the 52, 605 built on that assembly line at that plant for the 1970 model year. |

Re: New owner of old truck has questions
The last 8 digets of the vin # sould match the #'s you found on the frame. If they don't somethings been changed. Cab, Vin-tag, frame ext.

Re: New owner of old truck has questions
Thanks for all the info everyone! I will take some pictures very soon and post them. The Vin number and frame number don't match, and the VIN breaks down to a 1970 2WD 3/4 ton pickup. The suspension doesn't look cut up or modified in any way, so I suspect the cab or ID plate was changed at some point. Can't wait to start working on the old girl!
