Post Original tire size????

Does anyone know what the diameter was of the tires that were originally put on a '72 two wheel drive?
I want to keep my new tires as close to the original diameter as possible to keep the gearing and speedo correct.

Thanks

depends on the year actually,

standard on 70-72 half ton 2wd were G78-15,
before 70 was std tire size of 8.15-15,
this sizing changed to the alpha numeric sizing in 69 or 70 then went to the common metric sizing we have today starting in the early 80's
i stil have an original 1968 std equipment GoodYear polyester cord spare 8.15-25 tire on original wheel and all
date stamp code on the backside of the tire of of JUO552C if someone can decode that

roughly 28.3" is what was standard equipment on these trucks, you have to realize there were tens of tire and wheel size options each year, you could get 16" rims on half ton or tube tires, alot of different sizes and widths and types of tires, highway nylons, etc

ok....glovebox sticker says that the original tire size was H78-15.
It's a '72 LWB 2wd half ton.
Thanks for the links but I couldn't find anything on a "H" series tire.

I would think that a 28.9"(255/70SR15) front and a 30.8"(285/70SR15) rear should work pretty well....? I'm gunna be putting them on 15x7 truck rallys. Those are the widest that I could find to fit on that wheel and still stay close to the stock diameter.
