noisy rocker
I'm not new to turning wrenches, but I am new to diagnosing problems with engines. My rockers are noisy. I think it is on the #5 cylinder. I pulled the valve cover off, but can't tell anything. What could be the problem? Thanks.

Re: noisy rocker
If you have a 307. Replace the cam. But you can tighten it

Re: noisy rocker
It's a 305 by the way. Guy said it had a comp cam in it. Engine is a fresh rebuild. Am I looking at a new camshaft or what?

Re: noisy rocker
Could just be out of adjustment. Would go that route and check them all while your at it just to make sure they are all in adjustment. If new cam was installed and they reused rocker nuts they could be worn out. This would make this a re accuring problem. If you are worried about cam lobe being worn when turing engine over by hand watch that particular rocker to see if it has the sme amount of movement. RJ22

Re: noisy rocker
Hate to sound like a total newbie here, but...I read the section on adjusting the rockers. Great info. But could you explain exactly what "lash" is? I know I've heard it before, but when I got to thinking about it, I wasn't sure I could recognize it. Thanks.

Re: noisy rocker
I believe lash is the vertical movement of the pushrod. As you tighten down the rocker nut, you can turn the pushrod with your fingers and as it starts to drag slightly you are near/at zero lash. Don't overtighten it, though.
