454 Alternator Swap Sides
Hi all.
I'm going to be adding aftermarket A/C to my 69 Non-AC SWB Fleet. Today the V-belt driven alternator's on the passenger side, but that's where I want to put the A/C compressor in order to avoid running those ugly hoses across the front of the engine. I don't think it matters, but I'm running Edelbrock's Performer series aluminum heads. What bracketry should I look for to mount the alternator on the driver's side just above the power steering? Besides rewiring the alternator, What other problems do you think I'll run into? Here's a pic of my current setup. Thx

Re: 454 Alternator Swap Sides
Another alternative is to go a short waterpump set-up like the 68-72 BBC had. Would require SWP, PS pump brackets with remote res, alternator brackets, lower crank pulley and water pump pulley. You would then still need the aftermarket brackets for AC. While the stock set-up would more original, I bet the bling-bling would be cheaper and have more eye appeal.

Re: 454 Alternator Swap Sides
I have a solution for you. My step dad designed and manufactures a passenger side low mount bracket setup. he has one installed on his monte, and has sold a few on ebay with happy customers. It makes the alternator mount where the a.i.r. pump goes, so if you use an air pump this won't fit. the alternator will clear the mechanical fuel pump, and passenger side air. Below is the only pic I have of how it mounts to the engine. the ones he's made are steel, and cut with a laser or waterjet. Let me know if you are interested, I can give you his number, or have him list it on ebay.

I'm doing the same thing with a small block. I'm going to use low mount bracket on pass. side below alt. Got the bracket from a/c guy when I bought the kit. Planning to remove fuel pump to clear A/C compressor.
