Question wanting to move my floor dimmer switch. Does all the power for the headlights run thru this switch and it just switches the flow from one wire to the next?

Is it possible to move it to a dash mounted toggle of some kind?

If so what kind of switch would I need?

yes it can be done using a double throw toggle switch, quite easy to do actually

You mean you've never done the "no headlight stomp" due to a bad dimmer switch? That's when you are driving around at night, step on the switch to swap the beams, and you lose your headlights. You then proceed to stomp around on the d@mn thing like a fool until you get them to come back on!

All kidding aside there are 3 wires running into the switch, one is the power coming in, one is the high beam feed, the other is the low beam feed. Sorry, I have forgotten the color codes for each. So yes, a double throw toggle will work fine, just be careful to get a switch that can handle the proper amperage.

That is what I was wondering how many amps would you guys say is needed? I see alot of 20 amp switches but not sure if that would be enuf?

headlamp circuit uses a 15amp fuse

I did it, I am paraplegic so I had to, I used a switch I got from Ron Francis wiring...look em up on the net. Tell him what you are doing the guy is cool he will give you instructions and the switch .

As long as you're doing it you might as well go ahead and do the relay upgrade.Your lights will be much brighter.

I was thinking that also If I do the relay upgrade kit. Then am I right in assuming that the dimmer switch no longer will have high amps running thru it and I would be free to use just about any toggle switch I would like?
